tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Midnight_entityI always wondered how you would do a sequel to Midnight. I mean the Entity presumably was able to survive in X-Tonic radiation so it’s not like it was killed at the end of the episode.

One Week Later. A sequel to ‘Thin Ice’ Recap: The TARDIS, carrying DoctorXII and Bill Potts (and possibly Pete), arrived in London for the 1814 Frost Fair where they encountered and defeated the Monster-of-the-Week, and the Evil Industrialist misusing it, met an elephant and some photogenic urchins, offended a pie-man, won a bowling match (well Bill did).
Meanwhile, elsewhere in London, an evil plot is brewing. No monsters here.
- Though the Honourable Andrew Cochrane-Johnstone (wiki), murderer, slaver, rapist and fraudster comes pretty close.
The plan was for a small group of people, the exist members of which aren't definitively know even today, to make an awful lot of money by fraud and stock market manipulation. A grubby little plot, no aliens invading London/Britain/Earth et cetera here. Though there was also some politics involved.
At the time the Napoleonic Wars were in full swing. Cochrane-Johnstone was a member of Parliament (to which he was ‘elected’ dubiously and which enabled him to avoid his extensive list of creditors) when he, and others, schemed to make money. A lot of money…..
- The eventual sum was around £1,100,000. In context this was around eight-and-a-half tonnes of gold at prevailing rates (it’s complicated; if you’re interested start with the Great Recoinage of 1816) and represented one sixtieth of government spending of the year. Comparable to around fifteen billion pounds today.
The plan was simple. UK government stocks (‘consols’) were depressed in value due to the war, if the war ended then their value would surge. Buy low and sell high. Unfortunately the war didn’t look like ending soon. But that could be remedied….
So Cochrane-Johnstone and his associates purchased a huge amount of government securities. Then they arranged for a false rumour of the death of Napoleon to be spread.
Cochrane-Johnstone’s friend (and co-conspirator), the architect and marksman, Charles Random, Baron de Berenger, purchased a fake British uniform and showed up in Dover in the early hours of 21FEB1814 claiming to be Colonel du Bourg, an aide-de-camp to Lord Cathcart (British ambassador to Russia). De Berenger pretended to have just landed after crossing the English Channel and presented a letter to the military officers in Dover saying that Napoleon Bonaparte had been ripped in pieces by the Cossacks outside Paris, the city was in chaos and the war effectively over. The Bourbons were being restored to their lost throne.
De Berenger and Cochrane-Johnstone hoped that this letter would result in a message with the news being sent directly to London via the light-based semaphore system (a precursor to the electric telegraph). Unfortunately for them, it was a foggy day, so no message could be sent.
- While they failed at using the semaphore, their plan to use one for a financial crime did have a positive result—it inspired a plot point in Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo.
So de Berenger hired a coach at the Ship Inn (spreading around handfuls of gold Napoleons) and spread the news of the death of Napoleon, leaving for London around 1AM, after dispatching a letter (seen by all and sundry) to Admiral Sir Thomas Foley, the port admiral at Deal.
De Berenger, in staff uniform, set off in his coach, stopping along the way (at almost every inn and post house) to spread the news. When he reached the outskirts of London de Berenger paid off the coach and hired a hackney carriage to take him directly to the Stock Market, then located at Capel Court, next to the popular Mendoza’s Boxing Room. The news du Berenger brought, and his claim he had been sent to England by the Tsar himself, added credibility to his story and soon the value of government securities was soaring. However within a few hours the stocks began to falter due to the lack of corroboration of the story. To counter this, three of the conspirators, dressed in the uniforms of French monarchist officers (i.e. supporters of the Bourbons) made a show of celebrating the supposed victory over Napoleon.
- To the point of arriving in London in a chaise-and-four drawn by horses decorated with laurels while they all wore the white cockade of the House of Bourbon in their hats. As they drove through the streets of the city, they periodically tossed handbills from the chaise which read "Vive le Roi! Vivent les Bourbons!"
But by the end of the day the governing Committee of the Stock Exchange was suspicious and ordered an investigation into the events of the day. Soon it was found that around a million pounds worth of government bearer bonds, most of which had been purchased the previous week, had been sold at a huge profit that day.
Further investigations revealed that the bonds had been bought by a small group: Admiral Lord Cochrane, his uncle, Andrew Cochrane-Johnstone; Richard Gathorne Butt (Cochrane’s stockbroker), Ralph Sandom, John Peter Holloway and Alexander McRae.
- Someone, still anonymous, tipped the investigating committee as to the identities of the false Colonel du Bourg (de Berenger) and that Sandom, Holloway and McRae impersonated the Bourbon officers.
The press (naturally) had a field-day when the results of the investigation came out and the public, outraged at such villainy, demanded action. On 27APR1814 Cochrane (who almost certainly wasn't involved) and the others were indicted by the Grand Jury of London at the Old Bailey and were held for trial. The trial began on 08JUN, before Lord Ellenborough (the Lord Chief Justice). All were tried together in a single trial and convicted.
So, how to involve the PCs. Well say they're following the Doctor's trail, or otherwise arrive in London where they encounter Lord Sutcliffe's long-lost heir, Peregrine Sutcliffe. But Perry's inheritance is threatened by a crony of the previous Lord Sutcliffe who's now involved in the conspiracy. Perhaps Lord Sutcliffe was also involved, and there is a huge stock of bearer bonds in his home. Bonds that might soon be extremely valuable.

That’s a very good idea for a pure historical. I like the idea that towards the end of this adventure, the PCs hear rumours of a “sea monster in the Thames” and “bodies vanishing into the ice” Only for the PCs to shrug and say “It’s not our problem!”

I like to think it took possession of the Hostess and is now using her as a vessel to acquire new victims.

g en Maybe instead of the PCs deliberately trying to track the Doctor down, for some reason their TARDIS/Time Ship is following in the wake of the Doctor’s adventures. It doesn’t matter what co ordinates they punch in it is almost as their method of transport has an agenda of its own.

Perhaps they're utterly new to this whole 'time travel' thing and somewhat clueless (so not the actual Mob, who at least have the basic knowledge of UNIT). Maybe they're helping the Doctor? Their presence being essential, in some way, to certain of his adventures? Or they've been chosen to stop someone else who's also following the Doctor to reverse what he's done. A bit like a multi-layered Quantum Leap.

One idea that was briefly touched on in a Big Finish audio (in particular “Hunters of Earth”) was that the First Doctor’s arrival on Earth had been noticed by certain figures and organisations. However, this idea has never been followed up since.
Just how much attention has the Doctor drawn to himself? In a pre-UNIT world, it would be interesting to explore just what factions are at play. And what has been stopping them from capturing the First Doctor and Susan?

While experimenting with an alternate First Doctor, 'played' by Margaret Rutherford, in a one-off this featured in the background. One of her companions was familiar with UNIT so when the TARDIS materialised in 2018 he had to run interference to avoid certain temporal complications.

I want a sequel to Year of the Pig with the further adventures of Toby and Chardalot during the Great War. In fact here are a few ideas on the subject.....- The two are again somewhat estranged.
- Toby is depressed, the great slaughter he'd foreseen is happening.
- Chardalot is a detective, hunting out spies. Perhaps including a certain Dutch exotic dancer.... His 'butlers' are also around.
- There are multiple time travellers involved, though some are merely bystanders.
-
The person who created Toby and Chardalot. Or rather someone looking for them, to clear up after unauthorised experiments.
- A lost contingent from the War Games, stranded in a non-functional SIDRAT. Not particularly smart, except for their leader of course, or knowledgeable about the period, but well armed. An optional complication. Or maybe some temporal anomalies left behind by their experiments.
- A historian from New Ultonia, carrying out field research.

A group of disaster tourists, come to watch the spectacle of death, destruction and disaster. Hmm, Passchendaele (Third Ypres to historians) would fit nicely. Naturally people are suspicious about these 'Americans'.
- A stranded time traveller, hoping to find a way home. Or kill a time traveller for their craft...
- The setting is mid/late war, 1917 seems to fit. There's a sub-plot involving the aforementioned dancer/spy and the murky goings-on that led to her death.
- Albertine is still around, the voice of common sense. She's mixing field nursing with keeping an eye on Toby and Chardalot. What effects have the death and destruction had on her psyche?
- Carstairs and Lady Jennifer should have a cameo.

The Further Adventures of Wolfgang and Heather Two companions exclusive to the Doctor Who Adventures comic strip who travelled with the Tenth Doctor for a time. Heather McCrimmon tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Heather_McCrimmonA history student from the 21st century who was studying history at the University of Edinburgh and an extremely distant descendant of Second Doctor companion Jamie McCrimmon. It was while visiting the Edinburgh Catacombs she encountered the Tenth Doctor and the sinister entity Mozhtratta who had designs on her. After many adventures together, she returned to Edinburgh where she fell into a trap made by the long thought dead Mozhtratta who attempted to extract the residual Vortex radiation from her DNA using an unstable ReCohesion Cannon. Although managing to defeat the Mozhtratta, it was discovered that her time under the cannon had restructured her molecules to the point that she no longer had natural defences against vortex radiation. A single trip in the TARDIS would tear her apart. Forcing the two to tearfully part ways. In the years since, she has pursued a career in archaeology and found work as a freelance alien hunter. Wolfgang “Wolfie” Ryter tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Wolfgang_RyterA bright sixteen-year-old exchange student from Austria who wrote a blog about UFO sightings. After helping the Tenth Doctor and Heather defeat The Giurgeax (an alien disguised as an airplane) he travelled with the pair for a time. After a trip to Angkor-Wat in 1135 and finding himself serving as the vessel to the vulpine entity Lychaos, he decided to return home to Salzburg unable to get over the trauma of his experience. Many years afterwards, he was heavily into his studies regarding quantum physics and by night moonlighted as an alien hunter where he once again made the re acquaintance of Heather and saw the Doctor one final time before he regenerated. If truth be told, despite my fond memories of it, the publication was pretty wretched but I definitely think there’s room to expand on these two within an adventure. Or at least revisit what they have been up to since their time in the TARDIS. As independent alien hunters, they’re bound to encounter a few groups in a similar vein such as The Misfit Mob or even Torchwood.

An interesting pair, whom I was unaware of given that I've paid little attention to most of the comics, and especially those of D10. As you suggest it's their potential after them return to Earth that's most interesting. Might they encounter, or team up with, Martha and Mickey? Find a time machine, space-craft or other device and wander on their own? Team up, or match wits with, the Misfit Mob, UNIT, the remnants of Torchwood? Get involved with other former companions?

Yeah, Doctor Who Adventures wasn’t great. But as I said, I have a lot of fond memories of them. And the strips contained therein were basically the equivalent of a more serious TV Comic. Still doesn’t change the fact that I’d gladly pay for a collection which reprinted and collected all of them. Anyway, Heather and Wolfie strike me as the sort of characters who would probably remain Earthbound. Especially when you consider the former’s vulnerability to Vortex Travel (which might end up becoming a source of contention down the line) And maybe the latter’s experience with Lychaos might leave him vulnerable to possession from other entities. Maybe the Great Intelligence or even the unseen Erkling? I could definitely see the pair encountering a few of the smaller groups such as The Misfit Mob or Torchwood in its later years. In fact, the Misfit Mob was the first group that immediately sprung to mind for these two. Personally, if I were to use them in an adventure I’d contrive to have a cross publication crossover between the two have the pair stop the fiendish machinations of Count Jodafra!

One thing I have thought about comes from the Titan Comics run. The companion Cindy Wu had 500 (holy carp) clones in ancient China. I can just see how several of them have ended up in otherworldly places and/or times. Just imagine the mental confusion of Companions. "Wait a minute! Didn't we just meet that woman on Earth in 1521? Madam Wu?"
Friendly greetings, Horus Lupercal.

I admit my first thought is a modern day investigation into a weird 'glitch' detected by mitochondrial genetic analysis, with many modern humans having an ancestor with the same genetics, far too many to be explained by normal births.

Personally, I wonder whether an adventure could be made out of exploring the truth behind the fabled home of the Ravens of Despair, the horror story that is “The Rookworld”
For those of you unaware, the Ravens of Despair are an original creation which were featured in a DWAITAS Supplement a few years back.

Maybe had they appeared in another supplement or were carried other into some aspect of the Expanded Universe the Ravens of Despair would have made more of an impact. Personally, I think there’s more potential in the idea of the Mad Scientist character who was mentioned in one of the adventure ideas who has a fanatical hatred of the creatures and seeks to wipe them out. Although, maybe you could do a one off adventure set on The Rookworld where a group of disparate space travellers crash there and have to survive. Something akin to a Call of Cthulhu adventure.

L'Academie Sinistaire tardis.fandom.com/wiki/L%27Academie_SinistaireA really neat idea created by the rather contentious Lawrence Miles. An entire campaign could be based on the impact the school leaves across the century. Maybe the infamous Fantomas was either it’s creator one of its students? I actually think you could even use to great effect in a Pulp Fantastic game as well.

Talking about organizations, what about doing something with Faction Paradox?

Talking about organizations, what about doing something with Faction Paradox? I rather like the idea that after the Last Great Time War members of Faction Paradox began headhunting or trying to recruit what Time Lords were left after the conflict. And what did they do to the ones who refused?

Faction Paradox hate Time Lords. Unless the Time War affected them too. And they're facing a big dilemma because, in the end, it was the Doctor who ended it all.

It just seems too much of a stretch to be credible. At best they'd be laughing from the sidelines as they did during the War in Heaven. At worst, they'd be hunting survivors down for revenge for the destruction of their homeworld and other crimes perpetrated against them.
Faction Paradox would revel in the paradoxes and other time distortions caused by the Time War, and in its aftermath they would probably try to acquire any surviving technology that was responsible. If they found any Time Lords, they'd probably take them prisoner to extract information on the whereabouts of such weapons (or to use their biodata to access it). But recruiting them doesn't fit them at all thematically.

tardis.fandom.com/wiki/BaltazarI’ve been wondering for some time how you would go about doing a sequel to The Infinite Quest. Perhaps Balthazar after escaping from prison (again!) is now after some other treasure? Maybe even the Key to Time itself?
