I like XKCD But yes, the concept is a bit like "we are living in the Matrix" and the Time Lords have some grasp on how to hack it. The problem is how they hack it. The ideas of time sensitives, time vortex, and the various technobabble terms the Doctor comes up with as to why the TARDIS stops working all seem a bit arbitrary if you look too hard at it. Possibly what I'm saying is that - at the start of the universe the rules were created on how the universe functions and how it can be hacked. As a GM, if you are going to use ideas on this from the FP mythos - you had better start taking notes and keeping track of the continuity of the rules. It doesn't matter if time and history change - they're malleable. But you need to make sure that what makes them change is always the same or players will catch you out. It's pretty much the same as magic in fantasy - it's always a good idea to have a set list of things magic can and can't do before you introduce it to your players.

I've got to get the RPG first After that I can make a wiki and start adding to the basic rules. Also some kind of okay from the publisher on what is okay to have as fan material and what should be left alone for future publications would be good. In the meantime, I've put your sheet here- www.curufea.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=FactionDWLet me know how you want attribution to be written. I've described it as a red sheet, as you mentioned making other sheets. If/when I make a proper standalone wiki for anyone to modify, I'll be seeking permission for the other character sheets and resources too Much like my argument on the Hero System boards - wikis are superior to forums for RPG resources, because you can find things hierarchically and don't need to resort to a keyword search of a time sorted list (you don't have to bump a wiki article to keep it relevant).

Faction Paradox is meta-Doctor Who. The books introduce concepts similar to the relationship between Pure Maths and Applied Maths. They delve into how the Who Universe functions and explain such concepts as the inside of the TARDIS, Block Transfer Computation and Biodata. You can read the books just to blow your mind with those, and not worry about any of the Faction Paradox itself, keeping with the main Doctor Who mythos for your games. My problem with the idea of Conceptual Space that Lawrence and others (including the writer of Logopolis) have introduced is that it's narratively equivalent to Magic and suffers from the same problems. Mainly - where does it stop. There is a terrible difficulty in deciding where and how Magic stops being an explanation for things. An example is - the TARDIS control room. If the inside of a TARDIS is a mathematical formula in conceptual space - why do there need to be controls in this particular configuration. Is it like the 5th Doctor says in Time Crash? Just a "Desktop Theme"? Is it all there just so the mere mortals (like Time Lords) have a tactile interface into the maths? It explains why there is the occasional State of Temporal Grace - but it doesn't explain why things break down, why the TARDIS needs fuel or particular electronic components. Unless I suppose there needs to be a mathematical equivalent and the translation occurs as soon as you enter. XKCD explains it best, I guess-

Usually when enamoured of a new roleplaying system, I build a wiki for it for collaborative fan resource collecting. I've made one for Baron Munchausen, the Hero System and Unhallowed Metropolis. The Book of the War Apocrypha is specific to the FP mythos, rather than roleplaying - likewise the FP mirror website. I could create a specific wiki for DW:AITAS and have a specific section for FP if the idea of a resource wiki becomes popular. But in the meantime, I'll put it/them here- www.curufea.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=RulesFactionParadox

Sad to say, I got a very geeky little thrill when he replied to a message on facebook I'd posted in the Big Finish group... I hope he realises that he's now a celebrity himself, as well as a fan.
That being said - yes to both posts. I especially liked the German speaking Daleks. I also have the latest Faction CD, but am not sure if Gabriel is scarier as Sutekh, or when he does the ultimate evil voice in Impossible Planet.

We're actually getting QI downunder too - so that'll be good to see on local television for a change.
Hmm, the DVD release schedule is odd - I bought "The Keys of Marinus" last month. The schedule says not due out in Australia until January.

A deliberate rotoscope/cell shading look seems to have been applied to Dreamland. It matches well with other made-for-children CGI shows (like that dragon one, whatever it is called) and possibly is meant to be transitional so it is close to traditional cartoons.
Plus, it's faster to render and therefore cheaper to make. (on a side note, the McGuffin appears to be a model bought from whoever made the Resident Evil titles/movie - as it is the container for the T-Virus)
However - other cell shading programs use motion capture. Dreamland used key framing, and it shows - smooth, unrealistic movement that makes everyone look like a puppet.
At least the story was better than "The Infinite Quest", but I am a bit bias there as I don't like Martha.

Hey - I was dubious when Tennant took over. For that matter, I was dubious when I heard about Billie Piper. All I knew is she was some MTV girlie.
These days, after years of proof, I trust the casting and I trust the writing.

I'll be getting my pre-order comparatively early. It's all relative Sooner than other Australians, but later, I suspect, than anyone in the UK or US...

Since I'll be GMing this probably won't come up. But possibly as an NPC, maybe - so... As a descendant of Compassion and member of House Lolita, she could look like anyone (or thing, probably) - however I find it demeaning that she conforms to environments but Time Lords do not, so don't mind if she stays with one form (and would prefer it). Her control room would of course be mutually decided on, but I suspect something similar to the season 14 console room - but with more brass trimmings, some "matrix-esque" machinery, some chairs, and of course a subtle death/skull motif. Or possibly a separate room for rituals that's easier to clean

Sontarans, and probably their known worst enemy, the Rutans.
Possibly the Krotons as well.
