The first edition of The Doctor Who Roleplaying game is a complete self-contained game system. It has pretty much everything covered – but what doesn't it cover?
Is there anything that is asking to be made into unofficial Sourcebooks?
What would be really helpful and fun to have? Please let me know your ideas.

Personally, I’ve longed toyed with the idea of creating sourcebooks for other such similar properties such as Sapphire and Steel, The Tomorrow People, Space 1999 or even more obscure ones such as Ace of Wands. But I’ve never had the time nor motivation to dedicate myself to such a Herculean task.
Nothing immediately springs to mind, but maybe a collection of stats for original threats and villains with suggestions on how you could incorporate them within a campaign? Or, to be more specific for the DW universe maybe something akin to The Paternoster Gang Sourcebook but dedicated to another period in history?

I am in an agreement with Grinch here, would be interesting to have historical sourcebooks for periods of history of Earth, but also ones of the future as well presented within the show that can be used for reference points. Covers things from major historical events, daily life of different classes and lives of folks, important locations/places, general sort of stuff about the period of history that encourages further research. But also covers the well alien side of things, what known aliens have been prowling around this period like the Terileptils in Stuart times or a Sontaran during the Medieval times, how to include folk-lore even some folklore/urban legends and such as examples for adventure ideas, how to make original aliens that fit the period of time etc would be useful as well. Maybe some stats for historical figures as well in case you encounter them, using ones officially sourced from the main published sourcebooks and ones designed by non-official sources.

I've been thinking about making a Technology Level guide - covering skills, equipment, tech-specific use of skills and useful survival info, but I didn't consider a wider scope. It's a great idea and would be immense fun and highly useful to everyone.
'The Time Traveller's Guide To History' sounds good.
This would be a considerable amount of work...

Its an effort worth taking really, really would benefit and aid in creating much more enjoyable adventures. Tech level guides would also be pretty good as well, using expanded media to aid with it especially around the higher tech levels as well. Maybe even throw some new gadgets, items etc even traits for making new gadgets specific to that tech level. But also look how higher tech levels can integrate into lower tech levels like how a holographic projector could function amongst ancient Babylon for example and obviously vice versa.

You could probably do a whole sourcebook now that I think about it on the settings of The Year that Never Was or even the Alternate Timeline depicted in the Wedding of River Song where all of history occurred at once.

I rather like the idea of a historical guide type book, and I'm on board to help. I have a multitude of historical ideas in my notes. Maybe a timeline like structure for them?
I'm also on board for a Tech/Gadget books, another area where I have plenty of ideas.
And one of my one: 'Fellow Travellers'. A listing of other time travellers one might encounter while wandering the timestream, the good, the bad, the mad and the weird.

What about sourcebooks on new alien species that work well within the whoniverse? Just something to include something new into a campaign with interesting designs and such like that whilst also still capturing a whoniverse feel. Maybe even new locations/tech etc for these new aliens and adventure seeds for them?

Oh man, the Year that Never Was could be a really cool sourcebook. Maybe as part of an "Alternate Timelines" one. The Year That Never Was, the one where River broke time, the one from Pandorica Opens where the stars are going out, Donna's World from Turn Left, ETC.

All excellent ideas. For the Historical Guide I'm currently using the Terrestrial Index book for history ideas, with of course updates from the new series.
Gadgetry book - great idea. It could be incorporated into a Guide To Technology.
Fellow Travellers - excellent. 'Travellers In Space & Time' - a compendium of potential allies, enemies and time-capable races. This also could incorporate new info and updates to the Time Traveller's Companion.

Great idea. Also quite a challenge - this would need a good deal of creativity and originality. Or planets. Something on the late Anne McCaffrey's "Dragonriders of Pern" series would be cool. 'Guide To The Universe'. Great idea.
I'm also thinking of something along cosmic-scale threats and adventures, like The Ancient Time Lord's Guide to Infinity, The Dark Times, Eternals, the Daemons, Kronos-level beasties etc.
Just throwing ideas around...

Oh I like the sound of that one a lot! Defo include things from expanded media as well. Kinda would tie in with a faction paradox book perhaps I do not know much about them but I feel a Faction Paradox sourcebook would also work as well.

I have a couple of possibilities here, the EDCverse where the Doctor is the Big Bad and Earth Six where events of the timeline went rather differently and the UK is a mess while the rest of the planet is unifying and militarising opening against The Alien Menace.

Should we start a pair of threads for these? Fellow Travellers and a Gazetteer of interesting/odd locations? And maybe for historical incidents/places too?
And another idea ( ); a collection of historical people who could appear.
Having a root through my notes file I find about thirty historical incidents/locations that might be useful, a half-dozen tech ideas (several related to black holes and their uses), a round dozen time travellers and about twenty historical people. And that's from the first fifth of the doc.

I like it! Kind of like how GURPS has the who's who books, would lend itself well for that format. Maybe list off a timeline of their more important events in life as plot points on when to meet them. Another idea is that maybe include what aliens would interact with these historical figures or how can the alien-sci fi stuff be added around their life, and alternativily how to run a good pure historical with them.

how about a source book based on the Quatermass series or as Grinch said sapphire and steel things that could relate to doctor who but are not in universe another idea which should be easy enough was Primeval new world (The US series) since cubicle 7 did a game based on primeval UK a few years ago

Thinking and talking over the idea of a historical sourcebook there would seem to be three aspects to be included:
- A timeline of human history with the Whovian aspects included, perhaps based on Doug's Chronology or the one that appeared in the old FASA sourcebook. This would give some structure to the project providing a skeleton to be fleshed out.
- Interesting and game related events.
- People, and groups, that were/are/will be important.
Ideas?

That could totally work, but also include setting details on how to make more lively and fitting for each setting. But I like the chronology idea a lot would be one hell of a task.

No point stopping when we reach the present.

Might be useful to divide them up into two seperate sourcebooks for easier convenience

I've begun work on the Medical chapter of The Time Traveller's Guide To History, and have a few things to consider.
I'm currently at home convalescing (non-life-threatening), so I have a lot of time. However, that being said, with a little research and cross-referencing, it took around 4 hours to write 1062 words. That's around 250 words per hour. Concentration + creativity + rules is a lot of work.
This means that even with several writers, a complete book would take months to write, compile, layout and edit. It's a huge task - compiling the Traits Guide took me over a week.
With this in mind, I think it's better to complete smaller-scale books as mini-supplements.
For example, I'll release The Time Traveller's Guide To Medicine first.
Maybe at the end of it all, collect them all together in one giant guide?
What do you think?

I like that approach of smaller-scale books first as to make it much more easier and then add it to a larger book, much simpler then!

On the subject of the 'quest' style of campaign, I've been thinking of a temporally mobile antagonist who's trying to achieve a certain object, and keeps jumping around in time, making a series of attempts to achieve their outcome. This assumes that it becomes more difficult to keep trying to change the some event. Specific ideas are:
- Kill Hitler. A bit hackneyed, it's even become somewhat meta fictional, but why not. There are plenty of historical attempts to be hijacked and scope for more. And plenty of moral ambiguity as the PCs trail their enemy through time, witnessing the rise and fall of the Third Reich.
- Kill Churchill. Also numerous historical opportunities.
- Saving Napoleon. Advising and assisting, rescue from exile. And what about a Davy Crockett at Waterloo (OK earlier would have been better)
- Starting WW3. Even more fun, has anyone ever looked at the number of close calls during the last Cold War? And much scope for even more, better hidden, occurrences. Time to dig out Jeremy's scenario One of Out Submarines is Missing.
Ideas?

For some reason, I have this idea that this Temporal Enemy is trying to change history not on a whim or because they are trying to achieve some greater goal. But rather because they’re enslaved to the will of their Time Ship. Could make for a neat role reversal on the typical Time Lord/TARDIS or Pilot/Ship relationship. Of course, your PCs wouldn’t discover the truth until much later.

I had also thought about writing up a supplement on the short lived television series “Wizards Vs Aliens” by presenting it as another possible alternate universe within the wider Multiverse.
But again, it’s all about the lack of time and motivation.

Or did they find it and become the organic component, a necessary element in someone else's plan? Shades of Cathal and Taif if things were different. Maybe an AI has determined that humanity Must Be Eradicated?
Plenty of jumping around in the 1960s through 1980s.

For a darker approach, you could actually state that despite the Temporal Villain’s proclamations, the Time Ship isn’t controlling him. A thorough examination of the Ship’s system will reveal that the AI burnt out sometime ago. There is no Voice which speaks to them and compels them to make such changes to history. Merely their own unbalanced mind trying to protect itself.
