A quick idea. Blame thewarchief....
The Dying Man.
Aaron Moreno was born in 1999, the first (and only) child of a moderately successful lawyer and a rather more successful software engineer. His parents were millionaires by his fourth birthday, and continued to accumulate wealth from a number of patents obtained by his father.
Aaron grew cocooned by upper-class wealth, indulged for most of his life. Despite this, he turned out as a decent human being, more or less. Aaron was well-educated, and is technologically literate, but he prefers physical pursuits to intellectual ones. That said he's neither unintelligent or a fool.
Aaron is accustomed to getting his own way, he's always tended to avoid team sports in favor of solitary activities, usually of a somewhat 'extreme' nature; fencing, parkour, paintball, bouldering (and buildering), SCUBA and cave-diving, hang-gliding and parasailing. He accumulated a few broken bones but has survived. It's not his pastimes that is going to kill Aaron.
Actually he's developed a cerebral tumour, an uncommon form of glioblastoma, and is dying. He has around two years to live.
Aaron knows he's going to die and has accepted his fate, to a degree. Part of him wants to experience as much of life as he possibly can. Even if he kills himself in the process. He does his best to keep his condition a secret.
But he has another secret; he is, literally, a bastard. His mother confessed to him that her husband is not actually his father, rather he's the product of a brief extra-marital affair. A minor point perhaps, but given that Aaron is living off a lucrative trust fund based on his father's money it's important to him. Disinheritance might not kill him; it would certainly make his remaining time much less comfortable
If that was all that was going on Aaron would just be another unfortunate person. But it's more complicated. His mother worked on the periphery of certain agencies, doing the analysis of special data, meaning that she has far more knowledge of aliens, time travel and other matters.
When Aaron borrowed her notebook one day he discovered some files that really should not have been in offline storage. He was amazed, unbelieving at first, but the sheer volume of documents, and their banality, convinced her. So he formulated a plan; find someone, anyone, who could let him live, fix the unfairness of his fore-shortened life. He's looking for something to fix him, cure his cancer. Be it aliens, futuristic medicine, psionic body hopping or the embrace of a vampire. And he's in a hurry.
Appearance. Aaron is 180cm tall and a moderate build, weighing about 80kg. He appears to be in his early twenties (which he is) with tanned Caucasian complexion and short strawberry blond hair and hazel eyes.
Game Use. Aaron is intended to be a minor character for the PCs to encounter. At first they won't know that he's dying, or his intentions. If they are time travellers he may want them to drop him off somewhere where his cancer can be fixed. He could be a useful contact.
Then again Aaron may have become enmeshed in the activities of the alien community on Earth. Or be searching for a vampire. Or be seeking out a serial killer who drains psychic energies.
A further complication may be his parentage. Was his mother's affair with someone in UNIT? Might they want to help save is life.
Comments? Ideas?

At least I'm responsible ...hang-gliding and parasailing. When did you hack into my PC?! I've been working on glider stats and the rules for the last week. I was thinking of posting something on it in a few days. Regarding Aaron? Considering the time travel nature of the game, how about if the PCs run into him some time in the future, after he has gotten some sort of life extension thing going, and then run into him earlier on in the past? That way the PCs will notice him when the encounter him in the past and can possibly take an interest in him, and maybe see what happens to him (and the world) depending on what sort of tech he uses to extend his life. I also think that it might work out better story wise if his Mom was connected with Torchwood or some other organization besides UNIT. They seem to be less secure, and more likely to let something like this happen. Perhaps he got involved with Dr. Lazarus and/or Harold Saxon as that would have seemed like a possible solution. Also what if his tumor isn't actually a tumor but some byproduct of his mother's work? Perhaps some sort of implant? Perhaps alien, Perhaps his Mom had a fling with an alien and he's half alien, and instead of dying he is about to go into chrysalis before changing into a form similar to his father?

True, there's no reason the source of her information has to be UNIT. I rather like the idea of there being a network of present and past organisations, dating back to the Romans if not earlier. With history, factions and former members who have departed with classified information.
Certainly the tumour could be something far stranger.
In fact, wrt your second point I've an idea you might appreciate. The title is 'The Misfit Mob Go To Germany' and I got distracted into a history of such groups in Germany and who they integrate into the intelligence services of the country, before UNIT apparently absorbed them. Of course there are former members with their own agenda....

Really? I've been considering micro-lights, after the Monya Ichida thread. Now personally I'm not a fan of such craft. Yeah. It started off with my noticing that autogryos weren't covered in a differernt RPG, so I started working on them, and then got sidetracked by gliders. Since I tend to use a formulaic approach to game stats (I come up with a way to calculate game stats from real data), I could (and did) use said data for DWAITAS stats. I also had an idea for an orbital station that uses a lifting body craft as a sort of escape pod, similar to the cancelled NASA X-38 concept. Perhaps with the PCs involved in a chase in one. Rough draft glider rules as as follows, and are subject to change (not to mention feedback). Gliders have the same Armor Hit Capacity and Speed stats as other vehicles, plus: Glide Speed: This is the normal spped that the glider flies at, and it much lower than it maximum speed. Drop Rate: This is how fast the glider loses altitude expressed in action rounds per zone of altitude. IF a glider is going faster than it's Glide rate halve the rounds it takes to drop a zone, If going faster than twice it glide rate, divide the number of rounds to drop by three. For example a Slingsby T-34 Sky (Armour: 3, Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 8, Glide Speed: 3, Drop Rate: 9) has a drop rate of 9, meaning that it takes 9 rounds for it to drop one zone. At double speed this would be reduced to 5, and at max speed this would be reduced to 3. glider Altitude is tracked for gliders, and is measure in zones just like other movement. Generally a zone is 300m high just like most other aircraft zones, which works out to about 1000 feet or ten flight levels. When when a glider reaches an altitude of 0 it's on the ground, although how it reaches zero can make a huge difference for the occupants. Diving: Since (most) gliders are unpowered, they have to use gravity to get up to speed. A glider can dive a number of zones up to it's Speed rating, increasing it's current speed by 1 per zone dived. Climbing: A glider can climb by trading off it's current speed. This reduces the current speed by one plus one per zone climbed. For example a glider than climbs 4 zones would lose 5 points of speed. A glider can do a "zero level climb" basically sacrificing a point of speed to maintain it's current height. Sample Gliders (feel free to playtest )Schempp-Hirth MinimoaArmour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 9 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 7 Elliotts of Newbury (EoN) OlympiaArmour: 2 Hit Capacity: 5 Speed: 9 Glide Speed: 3 Drop Rate: 8 Schneider ES 52 Kookaburra Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 9 Glide Speed: 3 Drop Rate: 7 Schweizer SGS-1-23H Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 9 Glide Speed: 3 Drop Rate: 10 Schleicher AS-W 12Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 8 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 12 Neukom Standard Elfe S-3Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 10 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 10 Bolkow Phoebus CArmour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 8 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 11 Slingsby HP-14CArmour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 9 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 11 Schneider ES 60B Super ArrowArmour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 9 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 8 Glaser-Dirks DG-100Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 11 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 10 Glaser-Dirks DG-200Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 11 Glide Speed: 5 Drop Rate: 9 Akaflieg Munchen Mu 28Armour: 3 Hit Capacity: 6 Speed: 10 Glide Speed: 4 Drop Rate: 10

Well you did suggest it was time for another seed.... I'm a glutton for punishment.
Ah, a little temporal paradox? Always fun.I wasn't thinking of a paradox, just normal time travel stuff. For instance, say the PCs run into the guy in 2037. Then they run into a younger version of him him in 2024. Since they've seen him before the take notice and will be more aware of him when he appears in future adventures. SO once tey become aware of his terminal condition they might be more interested because they know he is around in 2037. True, there's no reason the source of her information has to be UNIT. I rather like the idea of there being a network of present and past organisations, dating back to the Romans if not earlier. With history, factions and former members who have departed with classified information. It's just that your previous Mifit Mob adventure involved classified UNIT gear being left were it shouldn't have been. Follow that up with this and it makes me wonder just ow sloppy UNIT is. They are generally good on this stuff in the series though. So IMO another, less careful organization would be better. How about some leftovers from the Van Statten collection. It was earmarked for Utah when Van Statten went missing and the whole collection got shut down. Mom could have been an ex-employee. Certainly the tumour could be something far stranger. It's suspicious with everything else going on in is life, thanks to Mom. Once you toss in secret organizations, aliens and advanced tech, anything unusual is suspect. For instance, say he won two grand on a lottery scratch ticket. Normally that sounds pretty good, but after the "Mom did secret work for a power organization"stuff you start to wonder if there is something more to it. In fact, wrt your second point I've an idea you might appreciate. The title is 'The Misfit Mob Go To Germany' and I got distracted into a history of such groups in Germany and who they integrate into the intelligence services of the country, before UNIT apparently absorbed them. Of course there are former members with their own agenda....How about they stumble upon investigations into the Knights Templar (knight Temporal) and maybe the Holy Grail legend? Aarron could want the Grail to heal himself. Toss in some neo-Nazi group ala Silver Nemesis and things could get complicated, especially if this turns out to be alien tech.

Very much strikes me as the perfect segway to introduce the Auctioneers into a campaign. Aaron may be tempted to try and purchase whatever alien artefacts they may have on offer. If only on the off chance they may be able to cure his tumour.
I do like the idea of exploring his parentage. If you do follow the idea that his old man may be not be human. Maybe even his dear old dad could still be imprisoned within the Black Archive and the treatment may be as simple as getting a some genetic material. Would be slightly harder if 'Father' turned out to be some eldritch horror which took on human form back when UNIT and Aaron's Mum first encountered it. And whether it would want anything to do with Aaron at all.

I've always assumed that UNIT was as careful as other government agencies. Which given recent revelations is rather worrying.... Items being souvenired by squaddies or retiring agents, kept by member of the Mob for emergency use without having all that paperwork.

If only on the off chance they may be able to cure his tumour. Ooh, that has potential. I could see mutiple problems from various alien artifacts that get bought and messed with. I could see poor Arron falling for various "snake oil" remedies. I do like the idea of exploring his parentage. If you do follow the idea that his old man may be not be human. Maybe even his dear old dad could still be imprisoned within the Black Archive and the treatment may be as simple as getting a some genetic material. And whether it would want anything to do with Aaron at all. LOL! I though his mom looked like Sandra Dee! What if Aaron did have a father but was created in a lab? Mom escaped from the "shady organization" with him, and was helped by UNIT, the Doctor, Captain Jack, or someone else with enough clout to pull it off. That would explain why she had all those secret documents. Speaking of which, I wonder just what secret info Aaron has?

Ah, more of a time-tangle then. It makes him a blip on the PC's radar. If any of the PCs take an interest is up to them. Although, it might help if some of his mother's documments held some bit of information that the PCs ended up looking for, leading them back to Aaron. I've always assumed that UNIT was as careful as other government agencies. Which given recent revelations is rather worrying.... Eeek! information that the PCs ended up looking for, leading them back to Aaron. Items being souvenired by squaddies or retiring agents, kept by member of the Mob for emergency use without having all that paperwork. I figured they were better than that, since we never really had anything like that happen in the show or even in any of the related material. In fact, the Black Archive makes me think they might be too far the other way, locking down every scrap of info, maybe to the point of not always giving the troops in the field all the information they need to know. That is a fascinating idea. A, i's just normal paranoia. Once one thing isn't what you thought it was, everything else comes under suspicion. Really, who can Aaron trust? It does open up some possibility. He could go to the ruins of an old Cathar castle. Maybe find a clue leading elsewhere. The Grail as know to have healing properties too. Plus there is the whole Arthurian angle. If you want to link Aaron's Mom to UNIT then, maybe his Mom had an affair with one of the knights from the alternate Earth who appeared in the 7th Doctor story Battlefield. The timing would be just about right, and a pregnant woman retiring from UNIT to raise her son makes sense. Mom's notes could be UNIT files on that mission and the alternate Earth. Aaron could find some sort of magical device of incantation that opens up a portal to that alternate dimension. Just tossing out ideas.

Certainly given the number of 'celebrities' who've fallen for crank cures there are plenty of examples.
