In games run by me, and by my players that are also Game Masters that have also then adopted this rule, we realised early on that TARDIS advancement points are incredibly slow to acquire even though they never got spent all that much (and still do not, in all honesty). To speed up the process, we rule that after every failed TARDIS Advancement Point roll the difficulty drops by 1 for every failed roll. Upon a success, the difficulty resets back to 9, and the process repeats until a new TARDIS advancement point is gained.
Its not the most complex home rule, but its one that has consistently made TARDIS's feel slightly more present (at least in my opinion).
