So I'm learning the 2nd edition and it took me a few days to realize when making a character it's 18 attributes and 18 skill points and 12 story points. I like the traits being gone surprisingly. Often times my players would get annoyed and everyone got a few traits for free, especially the trait that made them easy on the eyes, which always got a chuckle out of me that it was a priority with everyone I seemed to play with. Combat is smoother combining marksman and fighting and giving it a specialization. I now understand the exp system a bit better and I had one person use it correctly recently while running away from a cyberman. They were like I'd like to upgrade my stats really quickly please and I said sure thing you can do that once a pursuit. Because of that change at that moment, they got away scott-free. I was beyond over the moon. Now the thing I'm having trouble wrapping my head around, and forgive me if it's simple and I glossed over it several times, is the distinctions for humans. Do they use story points to buy them, exp, I noticed a lot of the npcs for humans don't have any distictions? Which I understand kind of. Can someone shed some light on this for me please?

Yes, Story Points are used to buy Distinctions. On pages 46-47 of the rulebook it says that during character creation, you must discuss purchasing any Distinctions with the GM.
Each Distinction can be bought for 2 of your starting Story Points, which are permanently removed from your starting total of 12, and you can have a maximum of 2 Distinctions.

okay so it's something made up between player and gm or maybe bringing over a trait from 1st edition. Okay. Thanks for saying that because I kept looking for where it was listed thinking I missed something. I reread that page and the light bulb turned on in my brain. Thanks for that! I wish there was a list like there are for traits I see why people prefer one over the other buuuut I really like some things that 2nd E changed. Okay I'll figure this part out with my players ;3
Answer sorted away thanks!
