"Never let the echoes of the past form a circle." - Gallifreyan Proverb
Background and Premise
This scenario takes place before and after World War II in Europe. The PCs begin in London around 1950. By chance, they meet up with a novice Time Agent on holiday. The Agent (who may or may not be Captain Jack) invites them to a pub but drinks a little too much and starts talking about time travel in the crowded pub. When he wakes up, his vortex manipulator is stolen. The PCs, through a bit of detective work, trace the theft back to a dingy (not empty) flat where they learn a bit about the thief. The young person lost both of her parents in the Blitz and Battle of Britain and clearly is traumatized by it. She harbors a tremendous amount of hatred towards Hitler (the PCs find a poster of Hitler on the wall with many knives thrown at it). There's also evidence she owns a gun. Both the gun and the youth are missing.
At this point, there's a tremendous destablization of the Time Vortex and Reapers begin to show up, indicating that the timeline has changed in a way it shouldn't. With some timey wimey science, the PCs can detect a change emanating from Munich in 1923 around the time of the Beer Hall Putsch. They put the pieces together and find out she killed Hitler. They go back in time to find the kid but with the destabilized time vortex they land a ways away and a few days behind the kid. Their TARDIS is damaged and they must go cross country and stop the assassination before it's too late.
Obstacles and Complications
There are a number of things that make the story exciting:
1. This is a tremendously unstable time in Germany so there's a high chance they get caught up in the confusion or attacked.
2. They may find a Reaper has followed them through the Time Vortex and is hunting their temporal radiation. They must deal with it and fast!
3. The crux of the story will be confronting the youth and convincing her she has to let go of her parents.
Question for the Forum
I know it is cliche and maybe tasteless to use Hitler this way and I'd need to talk with the party before we went ahead about their comfort level. What do you all think? The basic premise of the scenario would work in many historical moments but I chose WWII because I am most familiar with it.
