Hi everyone! I've got a tricky question for all the British members of this forum - and especially Londoners.
I'm currently working on a DW RPG scenario featuring an alternate reality London, virtually identical to the one we know... except that the famously doomed Watkin's Tower WAS built and completed and is still standing in 2022.
Since the tower was located on the future spot of the old Wembley Stadium (built in 1923), the logical consequence of this uchronia is that Wembley Stadium either does not exist in this reality (but then I'd need an alternate location for all those historical footbal events etc.) or that is was built "in the vicinity" of its normal location, allowing it to coexist with the Tower. Does this seem possible to you (topographically speaking) ? If not, do you see any possible alternate location for the great stadium?
Thanks in advance!

If you do not mind this suggestion, but you could say that in this alternate reality football never existed at all and perhaps something like cricket is a more dominant sport instead.

Ah, this is a great idea - but not one I'll be able to use as part of my Wembley-Watkin thing; I'd like the uchronic divergence to be as unconspicuous as possible (i.e. aside from the Tower, everything would seem to be the same as in the main continuum). But thanks anyway for the "cricket only" idea - I'll definitely try to use it in another story.

That makes sense, perhaps look at other stadium plans in London that were never built and say one of those stadiums was built and all those big football games took place there instead.

Perhaps you can go so far as to create your own stadium instead though and say this new one was built next to Watkins tower.

I'm fond of the 'slightly alternate' history setting.
Might the simplest option to have the stadium built within Wembley Park but in a slightly different location? If Watkin's Folly was built (perhaps the public fund-raising succeeded, the eight legged tower design was retained and this alleviated the issues with ground pressure and subsidence?) it's entirely possible, and I think likely, that the Wembley site would still be selected to house the Empire Exhibition; so the site would still be purchased, the British Empire Exhibition Stadium constructed and later become Wembley Stadium, just relocated slightly from our own history and towered over by the renovated Empire Tower.
Mike Paterson created an image (over on Londonist) with both the tower and the modernised stadium sharing the London skyline

Wow! This image is just perfect! Thanks a bunch! Glad I could help. The tower has been mentioned a few time over at alternatehistory.com with regard to unbuilt projects.
