The Other Immortals.
A couple of us were re-watching the Eighth Doctor telefilm (it was a wet weekend) recently and something struck me, the loose ends of Grace and Lee.
Technically Lee and Grace both died during the adventure in eve-of-millennium San Francisco, but both were resurrected by the TARDIS, via some unconvincing techno-babble about the Eye of Harmony.
- The Doctor specifically states that it was the TARDIS, and not himself that does the resurrecting.
- Which opens a whole other can of worms.
It was commented that this somewhat parallels the resurrection of Jack Harkness, though that involved Rose Tyler mediating the weird TARDIS energies, in The Parting of the Ways That rendered him immortal, and also a "fixed point in time", whatever that was supposed to mean.
So, what happens to Grace and Lee? Might they now be immortal too?
- With Ashildr, The Ghost and Harkness they'll soon need a club....
Grace. Remember how the Doctor said that "You dreamed you could hold back death. Isn't that true?" of Grace, something she appeared to agree with. What happens next? How will Grace react when she learns that had she actually achieved that dream? Albeit in a manner that's utterly useless when it comes to saving others.
- Unless the Strange TARDIS EnergiesTM also granted her superpowers...
And what about the traditional immortal dilemma, how would she cope with eternal life as everyone she’s ever helped grows old and dies around her? And the practical difficulties in current society.
Lee. Then there’s the matter of Chang Lee; a petty criminal and ganger, whom some rival gang attempted to kill. What does he do if he discovers he’s impossible to kill?
- And what do others think of his immortality? If another attempt to kill him fails, what do they do? Cut him into pieces? Fire? Acid? Entombment? Plenty of rather dark options there……
Would he seek revenge on the rival gang? Would he become an un-killable criminal or mercenary? Or would he use his immortality for good, possibly working for the USA as Captain Jack had for Great Britain? Or become the tortured plaything of a rival gang leader?
And then there was the gold he retained (and was there anything else?).
Would UNIT recruit them, either or both?
Comments? Suggestions? Ideas?

Was the Ghost ever established to be immortal? Mind you, he’s clearly got Superman’s power set and he’s always been seen as having a certain degree of longevity to him.
To be honest, I could see Chang being killed again, resurrecting and then going into hiding because he’s not sure if he is truly immortal or it was just temporary.

I don't think so actually, wrt to the Ghost, that was merely my assumption. Certainly Superman is suggested to be immortal, especially in the newer comics.
Regarding Chang (and Grace) you have a good point in that they don't know what happened to them and what it means. Unless they encounter someone who has specialised knowledge, or perhaps Grace carries out some experiments...

Personally don’t think such an assumption is out of left field. The best superheroes usually do have a certain degree of longevity to them in any case. Could make for a few interesting adventures in a campaign anyway. Encountering the Ghost throughout the centuries to the Far Flung Future. With the hero’s personality and modus operandi possibly becoming more brutal as he grows increasingly more disconnected from the world around him. Not to mention, any immortal worth their salt is bound to develop enough enemies to form their own Rogues Gallery after a while.

You're absolutely right, and that disconnection from ephemeral humanity has immense implications, and opportunities. It's not unlike the disconnection experiences by other long-lived entities, vampire, Time Lords, immortals in general. At least until human lifespan increases. I could see a superhero eventually being nullified by having acquired so many enemies specifically gunning for them that they have no time for other activities.

I could definitely see Grant abandoning his civilian persona to become The Ghost full time. Give him a few centuries and with Lucy gone, I could see him suffering an emotional breakdown or crisis of identity and flying off into space. Never to be seen on Earth ever again. Although a descendant of Lucy from the far future trying to discover just what exactly happened to The Ghost might be a good backstory for a PC or recurring NPC.

This seems very likely, that sense of disconnection from other humans. I do like the idea of one of Lucy's descendents seeking him out.

A few centuries down the line, Grant or “The Ghost” might have helped sire an entire species of superhuman. That or merely be considered a folkloric hero akin to King Arthur or Pecos Bill. I like to think should he ever meet one of Lucy’s descendants he’d recognise them immediately. May be an extremely distant relative but they “have her eyes.”
