'Clean Up' is on hiatus while by creative juices recharge. But here is more weirdness for the Misfit Mob, UNIT, passing time travellers or just an ordinary person who stumbles into The Twilight Zone1 a spot of weirdness..
The Man With the Midas Touch.
Part I.
Hugo Olson is the oldest (human) member of the Misfit Mob. And while he's quite au fait and competent with modern technology, he does have an interest in some older ideas. Like film cameras.
One lunchtime he though he'd struck it lucky, able to pick up an old Hasselblad SWC in excellent condition, and complete with bag and several unexposed rolls of film, from an antiques junk shop called Twice Treasured and for only a couple of hundred quid2. He initially assumed it was stolen, but a PNC check said no.
He was a happy man.
Hes was less happy after snapping off a roll of film over a weekend and finding his family pictures spoiled by fogging. Initially he thought it was simple aging of the film stock but there seemed oddities. The film had distinct, approximately circular, effects marked into it.
Before taking it to work he consulted with one of his fellow 'old timers' and had his suspicions confirmed.
It was radiation damage.
He brought the matter up the following Monday and the Captain agreed that it bore investigation. So Julie, Malyk and Demetrius headed along to the shop and it's proprietor. While Ms. Antonina Alford is nervous when confronted by officialdom she wasn't that nervous. Julie had checked and the shop was clean, no sign of it being used to purchase stolen property. Alford had made a packet in software development and the place was a retirement project. Odd perhaps, but not illegal.
However she was concerned when the word "radiation" was mentioned and willingly showed them where the camera had been stored before being put on display ("And for the wrong price too. My idiot nephew was helping me").
In the back room there was a locked press where the camera bag had been stored. When Demetrius held a radiation sensor in it there was a sudden spike. In a small box were six gold sovereign coins. When taken out they proved to be emitting small amounts of gamma radiation.
After a quick call to Daisy they confirmed the levels weren't hazardous, reassured the panicky Ms. Alford, gave her a receipt for the coins and left.
1. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
2. Rather than a couple of grand.
