While perusing the news sites recently I've been struck by the number of injurious, damaging and even fatal lightning strikes in Europe recently.
- The final day of the Rock am Ring music festival in Germany (about 100km west of Frankfurt) was cancelled after a series of strikes injured more than eighty fans and staff, eight seriously. [BBC]
- A man was killed in southern Poland as he was hit by lightning while descending the Babia Gora mountain.
- In Paris a birthday party in Parc Monceau was hit, injuring eleven people (including eight children), four seriously, on 28MAY.
- A children's football match in Hoppstaedten in Germany was also hit; the referee was struck directly and more than thirty others were also injured.
- In Northern Ireland a father and his two children were hit and suffered serious injuries outside a primary school (his heart was restarted at the scene) [BBC]
- A house in Stamford Hill in Hackney, east London, was set on fire by a lightning strike.
- There were further electrical storms in Bedfordshire (including disruption to Luton airport), North Wales, Manchester and Milton Keynes
OK, it's just a series of seasonal thunderstorms. Unless it's something completely different, a mad scientist meddling with weather control or a new weapon perhaps. Or maybe there's another alien like the Wire or the Mandragora Helix around, maybe trapped in a self-sustaining thunderstorm.
Comments? Ideas? Suggestions?

In the last week at least 74 people have been killed by lightning in India and about thirty more injured. AP.

I do like the idea of some entity being trapped in and unwittingly creating a self-sustaining thunderstorm.
Maybe the thunderstorms are also the result of the Elder Gods engaging in a civil war (probably due to the machinations of Fenric or The Trickster) and their infighting has caused lightning storms in our reality as an unfortunate by product.
