Interesting stuff. I had envisioned using a rogue Time Lord in one of mt campaigns. I may borrow these what-if Doctors as a template. I may even say that the rogue Time Lord is the Doctor from another reality.

There were some fascinating possibilities; Cyril Cusack, Ron Moody and Richard Griffiths are my favourites. There have been a number of threads on alternatehistory.com speculating about this, I collected most in this thread: dwaitas.proboards.com/thread/2913/alternate-doctors

There's certainly the potential for a slightly alternate Whoniverse based on one of the unchosen actors as the Doctor. This would give a GM some freedom to reinterpret the Doctor's personality and show players that their inside knowledge might not be applicable.

This would give a GM some freedom to reinterpret the Doctor's personality and show players that their inside knowledge might not be applicable. This is our approach for The Dark Dimension, and it's been a lot of fun. Our timeline diverges from the canonical timeline at a key point during the Eighth Doctor audios, with Richard E Grant assuming the role of the Doctor. (Grant was more than just a potential Doctor, he was the Doctor for a fleeting moment in time!) We've spun a whole new mythology out of the hints made in "Scream of the Shalka." In an ideal way, the animated adventure dangles a lot of interesting plot threads but doesn't present enough definitive answers to be in any way restrictive to the development of our own campaign. There is no Time War, there is no Torchwood, and there's no telling where this narrative is going. In the coming months we're going to be changing things up with rotating game masters. We even have our next incarnation of the Doctor lined up. (Again, the player has chosen an actor who would have made for an exceptional Doctor but never had the opportunity to assume the role.) We're developing an entire alternate series of Doctor Who from a simple starting point. It may be inspired by ongoing televised Doctor Who adventures, but nothing from the on-screen stories can be taken for granted in our campaign.

Good luck with it, I like it so far. For the EDC I deliberately stuck with the canon actors' appearances (though some of the pics I used were from other roles) but changed the personalities.

I like how the Ninth Doc Sourcebook hints at "other Ninth Doctors." A sly nod to Richard E Grant there, I've always thought.
