I like it! I'm not that familiar with The Magic School Bus series (mostly I was reminded of the Fenspace version when I was writing the Time Travelling Bus post and did some reading) but it'd work for a lighter Who campaign. Liz, the 'pet' lizard could be an alien of some sort, possibly using a perception filter or other such disguise. Ms. Fizzle also reminds me of Susan Sto-Helit, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld; another teacher with an unusual background and strange powers, who takes her charges on strange field trips. No bus of course. In turn she may have been inspired by Doctor Who. Of course maybe not all the kids are contemporary; there was a time machine in the Time Riders RPG called the Dawn Treader (after Lewis's ship) whose crew had a habit of picking up orphaned kids from "the wretched parts of history" and arranging for new homes for them.

Short lived but now out in PDF for US$8. It needs the Rolemaster books for the game mechanics and system but the setting is pretty open and surprisingly good; two time patrols, an organised group of bad guys and plenty of freetimers. Several forms of time travel, an interesting set of NPCs and some good scenarios. I've scavenged a lot from it for other games. It's the only time travel game to go with "history cannot be changed" nearly rigid model of time, and makes it work well.

I've noticed that there's a character in Time Riders who might suit as a companion/friend for Ms. Frizzle; the Reverend Malachi Liddle is a Victorian English clergyman who was give a time machine by a time traveller who's life he saved. He's developed a hobby of wandering Europe and the Mediterranean in Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages as a combination of pilgrim (looking for the highlights of Christianity) and general do-gooder.
