I'm still learning your system, so please bear with me.
I do have a question about fighting. According to the rules, if you hit someone, you do Strength damage (on a good roll). But what if a persona has martial arts? One of my player's characters is a female who's base Strength is only a 2. She can't lift a refrigerator over her head. But the player has went out of their way to pay a full 4 points into fighting, and even used the extra point to have an "expertise" in martial arts. Now, in the real world, very normally low strength people can do amazing things with martial arts. They can break wood, cinder blocks, and knock down opponents with mush higher strength.
How does this figure out in DWAITAS?

In DWAITAS, the Fighting skill doesn't by itself increase damage. But it does increase the likelihood of the character getting a Fantastic result, which allows them to do 1.5 times Strength. So for Strength 2, that would inflict 3 damage - still not an awful lot.
In the Primeval RPG (which uses the same Vortex System as DWAITAS), there's a Martial Arts trait. It's a Major trait (with prerequisites of having at least Fighting 3 and an AoE in a martial art) which provides the character with the ability to inflict +2 damage and the option of using Coordination instead of Strength to work out damage.
So a character with Coordination 4 would do 6 damage with a Good result and 9 damage with a Fantastic result!

Thank you. I won't make my player purchase that Trait since we are in the middle of playing. But I will use those numbers for my damage.

super fun game so far! You've been doing a great job first time out. This is my first time playing, actually, too.

Thank you. I won't make my player purchase that Trait since we are in the middle of playing. But I will use those numbers for my damage. I might offer them a trade, tell them that what they meant to do was probably buy the Trait instead of the Area of Expertise, and just let them get away with it this one time. I think it's the same cost, and if their Coordination is significantly higher, it't really be worth it to them. Up to you.

super fun game so far! You've been doing a great job first time out. This is my first time playing, actually, too. (Kevin Keene) I have GMed a great many games. Mostly Hero System. But this is my first time with DWAITAS. I must admit I am having great fun with it. For those interested, the first story arc involved my character (the time traveler - The Professor) coming out of a damaged TARDIS (that changed from a column to a lime green 1960s style fridge) just to regenerate. The duo future traveling companions offered to buy him a drink, only to find toy-sized action figures (autons) kidnapping kids. On the way they met a cat burglar future traveling companion, and are now locked in a room of a toy factory, with half melted adult sized autons trying to break in. (which are half melted thanks to the Kevin character) I like Kevin. He is the most "normal" human out of all the 3. Wally is the Boffin genius, and Tracy is the Martial arts cat burglar. And The Doctor had many "normal" companions. And a note for the response from Polar Bear. Thank you for your advice. But I think I'm going to keep it the way it is.
