(NOTE: Given the Scion's name, we've decided to name the campaign "Justin Time.")
Dramatis Personae
Justin - Scion of Gallifrey
Dr. Luisa Valez - 22nd century physician
Aki - 17th century samurai warrior
Bret Frizell - Video game programmer in the present (1986)
We come in as Bret reads the words on Todd's terminal "PRESIDENTIAL VISIT TOMORROW." Noting that the file was dated yesterday, Bret determines that President Reagan must be coming today and is probably on the way right now!
Aki jumps down the hole after Gen. Scoville. He lands in a storage room with the General and two soldiers, sword in hand, and orders the soldiers to throw down their weapons as Scoville orders them to fire. The rest of the group follow him down the hole, (Luisa landing on Aki, who fortunately has already won the battle of wills, otherwise, being toppled by a woman falling on him may have lost it.) Scoville uses the opportunity to recover the scene with a "Goddammit! You do NOT take orders from THE ENEMY!" As his eyes glow for another blast, Aki slices into the General, only to have the Mandragora animate his body like a puppet. As the soldiers try to recover their guns, Justin uses his Neutron Ram to weld the components of the guns together. (He succeeds critically, welding them to the floor as well.) Aki finishes the job with his sword as a quick force field on the hole in the ceiling prevents the tear gas from flowing down through the hole. Justin convinces the soldiers that their general was possessed by an alien intelligence that means to harm the President. (One soldier is more convinced than the other and sways him by pointing out "You saw, he was possessed! When have you ever heard of someone being POSSESSED by GOOD?")
At this, the Mandragora Helix activates the intercom, activating the employees to rise up and come eliminate the intruders. Having been suffused with Mandragora energy, Bret feels the compulsion as well, but knowing what it is, combined with Luisa's anti-psychic drug and his own will, allows him to resist it and conclude that the Mandragora must be on the company's network if it's able to access the intercom. They attempt to leave the storeroom to find the hall filled with possessed Involution employees. Retreating, Luisa determines that if they can find some sort of aerosol delivery system for her drug, they can break the Mandragora's hold on the employees. Luckily, being an 80s kind of guy, Bret has a canister of hairspray on hand to maintain his Flock of Seagulls haircut, and through the fine art of Jiggery-Pokery, Justin manages to convert it into an aerosol mister to spray the drug on the employees just as they've battered the door down.
Outside the complex, a brass band starts playing "Hail to the Chief" as the group run to find a network terminal. They split up, Bret going to the terminal and Aki staying to defend him against any further attacks, and Justin and Luisa heading outside to warn the President away. Bret finds a file on the network called MANDRAGORA.EXE and tries to delete it, but is unable to. However, it appears that it can be saved to another source. He tries to save it onto floppies, but after filling three of them, can see that this is not enough for the job.
Meanwhile, outside, Justin and Luisa convince the Secret Service that the President should leave. Luisa's scanner goes off the chart as the glow of Mandragora energy building in the mainframe is now visible even outside. They rush back in and Bret informs them of the problem. Realizing that Voyager I is somewhere past Uranus at the moment, Justin rigs the Neutron Ram to transmit the Mandragora from the Involution network to the space probe, sending it on a long, slow journey back to it's own galaxy. Bret gives him the three disks of Mandragora that he was able to copy, and Justin decides to lock them away in the "M" trunk in the TARDIS. As the threat has died down and the two soldiers have been able to brief the Secret Service on the situation, they pronounce the building secured, and two agents enter, telling the group "Someone wants to speak to you outside."
As they're escorted to the Presidential limo, there is a conflict with Aki not wanting to give up his sword before meeting the President. Justin persuades him that they are about to meet the Emperor, and so he relents. Reagan emerges from the limo wanting to know what the hell has been going on.
Explanations are given and the government is called in to shut down Involution. Reagan gives the group the thanks of a grateful nation and offers them a ride back to Bret's vehicle and the TARDIS. As the limo leaves them, Justin tells the group that next year, Reagan will give a speech to the UN where he mentions the possibility of uniting with the Soviets against a potential alien threat. From then on, he would often seriously discuss the possibility of alien invasion. Many thought it was the beginning of his Alzheimer's, but Justin points out that they may have just sown the seeds of Glasnost here.
Bret realizes that he is now out of a job as the Secret Service is hauling the Involution games out of the arcade (To the screaming complaints of the manager.) and Justin offers to show him the TARDIS. Bret enters and exclaims how it's bigger on the inside as Justin shows him some of the controls "And this one closes the door," he says, hitting a wrong control as the TARDIS takes off. "Well, you DID close the doors," Luisa comments.
