When running a game this past weekend, I improvised what I thought to be a wonderful use of story points... one that seduces the player running the Doctor to spend those many points: Oh Yeah, We Know Each Other. When the Doctor or an experienced time traveling character encounters an NPC of historical significance... and it won't trash the adventure's plot... the Doctor can spend a story point to establish he already encountered this person. The GM can of course say he won't allow the Doctor to do this... handwavium. The GM can also establish whether the Doctor encountered the NPC previously or in a future adventure. This encounter with the historical person provides the GM with fodder for a future adventure, where the Doctor encounters the historic person earlier in the person's timeline. I ove any mechanic that provides the GM with plot hooks. Whatcha think? Garrett

Agreed. In fact, my 16-year old improvised that rule once during Games of Chance to establish that he'd met Dr. Feynman back in the Doctor's second incarnation. I duly charged him a story point for his convenience, and moved on.
Yes, sounds good.

What do you think the whole Rat Pack would be worth? (See my writeup "Luck Be A Lady.")

A very interesting idea. How about using "Time Traveller" for the appropriate TL or "Time Lord - Experienced" as a pre-requisite for this ?

I would let anyone use it [without Time Traveler] if the character was in their home time zone.

This is actually a Stunt in the FATE RPG as well - which makes me think that the other Stunts in that system may be worth looking at (it can be found for free here- fate-srd.com/)

Or you could flip this and do a "Snake Plissken"
A character who has the Distinctive trait can spend a story point and be recognized by some random NPC the character doesn't know.

Absolutely Jay. Great idea to do the flip side. Garrett

This sounds like a normal use of what the 10th Doctor edition calls "Hang on, I have an idea!": "Bend the plot and manipulate the story to save yourself in times of need."
