It was good but the pacing was off. Far too slow and nothing really happened. Loved the end though.

Absolutely Brilliant. Joyous. Sad. Touching. Fantastic.

Fantastic story, but very dodgy pacing. I think it would have worked better maybe as a two parter, with the ageing happening between episodes. Would have let them show more of the battle too.
Also, a little unclear on where it left the Time Lords.Did they return after he broke the siege or have they retreated back into their pocket universe?

Or No. Depends on which way Stephen Moffat's coin lands next time he cracks open his Who Writing Pen. I'm glad it wasn't a 2-parter, last time they did that for a Doctor's exit we had 20 minutes of filler as he wandered around visiting past companions and making sure they were okay. Actually think they should stop doing these Christmas specials, none of them have been particularly good.

Too many monsters spoil the plot.

Agree with the slow pacing but overall it was good. New regeneration cycle and tied-up loose ends were very welcome. Can't wait to see what Capaldi does with the role. The brief glimpse was too brief.

Too many monsters spoil the plot. And yet again the Sontarans are used for comedy. I did like the wooden cyberman, though. Last time we had all those monsters gathered together, we had the Underhenge and another trap for the Doctor. Now that I think about it, isn't Mr M recycling plots a lot now? Here's a thought, why not have the regeneration in the first 15 minutes next time, then we can have the rest of the episode to find out what sort of a Doctor the new one is?

Actually, it would be kind of neat to use the season's penultimate episode for the regeneration, and use the finale to do the "New Doctor Sorts himself out" episode, and thus we have a whole season of actual story telling.
I am kind of wondering if we are going to have another split season, or if they will all air in one go.

I'd kill to not have a 'oh what am I like?" episode with the new Doctor, but just hit the series running with his character in place. The sooner we saw what 12 is really like, the happier I'll be I also hate the split seasons

They've stated quite clearly the next series will not be split.

Um...still don't quite know how I feel. I consider myself to be a fairly major fan of Moffat fan. However, I have found that recent Moffatt episodes improve for me greatly on re-watch (with the notable exception of the luminous Day of the Doctor). Pacing just seemed uneven or something.

Completely agree. Season 7 part 2 wasn't that great watching it as it aired, but when I rewatched the whole thing back-to-back it was much better. I think season 5 is where the show hit perfection. It was the classic 13-episodes-with-3-2-parters format, episodes were a good balance of action and getting to know the characters and even the worst ones were still on a par with the best of the first 4 years.

I think I need to watch it again before I know what I think...
So far, I'll echo pacing was weird/off.

They've stated quite clearly the next series will not be split. Oh good! I'm guessing that will mean we will have a "Doctor Lite" episode in the mix somewhere.
