So I've pretty much almost definitely decided to have a go at running a pbp dwaitas game. I want something that is fairly recognizable as Who in flavour ie. whacky adventures through time and space, but I'm not going to use The Doctor. My idea was to begin with something that is sort of a bit Harry Potter, a bit X-Men and a bit Human Nature-ish.
from the prospectus...
The John Smith Institute for Exceptional Young People
Founded in 1973, as part of a special initiative by UNIT, the John Smith Institute for Exceptional Young People is jointly funded by both the British government and the United Nations.
The Institute is based at Shaw House, a 17th century manor house situated on Rannoch Moor, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The interior of the house has been extensively renovated and boasts many modern features, including the newly rebuilt biosciences laboratory (now with fully updated hazard alert lockdown protocols).
Attendance at Shaw House is by invitation only. Potential students will have demonstrated qualities that suggest that they possess 'exceptional potential'. This singular entry requirement appears to have been left deliberately ill-defined and has, over the years, been interpreted in any number of unusual and surprising ways. Previous alumni have gone on to achieve great things in the fields of science, medicine, engineering, education, philosophy, exploration, humanitarianism, music, journalism, sports, theatre and even television.
Shaw House students may come from any culture, from any background. All individual expenses are paid by the Institute and financial hardship is never allowed to become a barrier to attendance. Entrants are typically aged between 18 and 21. At completion of attendance each successful student is awarded the International Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma, a unique qualification considered to be equivalent to a master’s degree.
Study at the Institute is user centred and highly flexible with a strong emphasis on personal needs. Activity is usually project based with each student encouraged to define his or her own ‘framework of inquiry’. The Institute’s teaching professionals consider their primary role to be as facilitators.
From this jumping off point, the characters will eventually acquire the means to travel through time and space and have exciting adventures. At the moment in my head I'm imagining it looks like a sort of young adults TV spinoff of DW (a bit buffyeque maybe?).
Does it sound appealing? Would you play in such a game? If not, why not?
Cheers
