I've added a wintery new scenario, Ice Storm Rising, to the downloads available from my page here: Ice Storm RisingHaving seen the Christmas trailer on CiN on Friday, I rather suspect that the monsters in my scenario have a similar concept to the ones in The Snowmen - but probably not the same in execution. Ah well, time will tell. I've also written a proper Christmas adventure which I'll post in a week or two. In the meantime, any comments on Ice Storm Rising would be welcome.

Great stuff! I'm going to download this now. Might take me a day or two to find the time to read it, but will post some comments. Always been impressed with your adventures! Great to have a new one!
Thanks!

Well, I actually found the time to read it this evening and I have to say it holds together very well as an adventure. I think it would be a fun game sesson. On top of that, I really liked how well embedded it was in the DW cannon. Galactic Federation, Orion Androids... And I chuckled when I spotted a Pakhar. The first thing I imagined when I saw the name was a shrill voice going "*gasp* Nicky Newman!" (that audio is my sole experience of the species though I understand they exist in other stories). You've adopted my favourite approach to adventures, which is what might be called 'loosely structured'. Suggestions and options, but no concrete rules. I particularly like how you have a couple of little sections on what might go wrong or how to add complications. I do the same thing with mine. From a critical point of view, there's little to fault. I do want to question "liquid ice". Is that not more popularly known as "very cold water". The Ice Warriors were interesting. I too noted the two different types of them in the TV episodes. In my game, I always planned to have the different types be male and female rather than different casts (I could decide which to make which, however). Anyway, a really well-thought out, imaginative and nicely-presented adventure. Thank you for taking the time to write this up. I know from my own how long that can take! Really, very impressed. Makes me want to go and write up another one myself, now.

Oh, one thing that I did notice in the adventure as critical feedback, which I've just remembered, is that the Galactic Federation seems to have Technology Level 7 which seems slightly high to me. I would have thought 6 would be more appropriate. Just my thinking. I never got the feeling that either the original Ice Warriors or the later versions in the Peladon stories had the sort of advanced technology shown by some other entities in DW, but who still fall below TL8 entities.

Thanks for the feedback - glad you're enjoying the adventures. And yes, I'd love to read more of yours - didn't you mention a Sea Devils scenario quite some time ago? Oh, one thing that I did notice in the adventure as critical feedback, which I've just remembered, is that the Galactic Federation seems to have Technology Level 7 which seems slightly high to me. I would have thought 6 would be more appropriate. Just my thinking. I never got the feeling that either the original Ice Warriors or the later versions in the Peladon stories had the sort of advanced technology shown by some other entities in DW, but who still fall below TL8 entities. I use Tech Level 7 as the default for Federation members in this period unless there's clear evidence that that's wrong - Peladon, for example. Certainly, Earth is TL7 by the 30th Century, several hundred years earlier, and it seems to me that something like the Federation would need access to advanced interstellar travel to hold itself together. I'd agree that the Ice Warriors in their two Troughton appearances would be TL6. But I don't think we see enough of the Ice Warriors' technology in either Peladon story for that to provide firm evidence either way. As they're 1,700+ years later than those in The Seeds of Death, a bit of technological advancement seems reasonable to me. Ultimately though, there's no definitive answer at the moment - my choice is TL7; other might want to use TL6.
