The Doctor has been acting strange in the new year like he knows something is coming. when his companions ask him if something is wrong he avoids giving them straight answer. he keeps going to visit ancient ruins( not just on earth) like he is looking for something
key words 12-21-12
things to work out what is The Doctor looking for
some interesting ideas the daleks and the cybermen come to The Doctor and say they are scared of something but won't say what
The Could've Been King could be the big bad

It would make a good story arc Yes, it would indeed. Some random ideas: * Aliens reference an old calendar predicting the end of time on third day after the fifth cycle of the second moon. Turns out that is 12-21-2012. * It suddenly is impossible to travel further in time than 12-21-2012. * Time machines default to 12-21-2012. * AIs all over the universe decide to do some investments to gather money/resources. * The old Mayans deny everything, as a matter of fact, they show calendars that go billions of years in the future. * All Cybermen find a file in their registers called README.txt created 12-21-2012, modified 02-01-2102

Of course, being Doctor Who it should use UK dating: 21-12-2012....
Never mind the fact that the Mayan calendar doesn't end at that date it just starts a new cycle... but don't let that stop you!

Never mind the fact that the Mayan calendar doesn't end at that date it just starts a new cycle... but don't let that stop you! /conspiracy mode onAs that date draws nearer, so-called scientists suddenly find more and more evidence that there are dates far into the future and the Mayans never thought the world would end. You know why? Because plan A failed, remember last year when NASA said it was a miscalculation and that the end of the calendar was in fact somewhere in 2112? It didn't work, people didn't fall for it. So now it's time for plan B: get as many scientists as possible to "find" evidence in Mayan inscriptions, (because who can read ancient Mayan?) that it doesn't predict the end of the world, but the end of an era. /conspiracy mode off Disclaimer: Just so you now, the above is meant as something humorous and does not reflect my personal opinion. The Mayan doomsday hype certainly has a lot of gaming potential. (See also my UNIT campaign idea)

Oh it certainly does. At the very least it's the basis of the Sixth World of the Shadowrun RPG....
And, of course, just because we think it is merely the end/start of an era doesn't mean it can't still really be the end of the world and we don't know it!

And, of course, just because we think it is merely the end/start of an era doesn't mean it can't still really be the end of the world and we don't know it! Hopefully it is the end of the current era, full of war, corruption and tragedy and the beginning of a new one, in which the people of Earth unite to deal with solve global warming, the economic crisis and other problems. 21-12-2012 0:02 AM --- Scientist 1: Ha, it's 21-12-2012 and we are still alive, the world's still in one piece. It seems you lot were wrong. Party!! ;D 21-12-2012 0:03 AM --- Conspiracy 1: The day is still young. Wait and see. The party lasts all day, drunken promises are made and somewhere between the confetti you can see the beginning of world peace. 22-12-2012 0:30 AM --- Scientist 1: Wohoo, what a party. Oh look at the time, it's 22-12-2012 already . I never believed that nonsense. 22-12-2012 0:32 AM --- Conspiracy 1: I hate to admit it, but you were right. I can only conclude that there was no conspiracy after all. BOOOM - the sound of the Earth exploding from the impact of the invisible planetoid Nibiru.
