The last Dalek. Just an idea I figured I'd throw out there. Ideas came this week after watching Destiny of the Daleks and Victory of the Daleks. PCs land on Skaro, though at first they don't know this. They find in a deep bunker a lone Dalek. But it is not hostile, it will try and help the group if they have injuries. * It does not know it is a Dalek * It has been left alone for a millennia and no longer remembers itself as a Dalek or what the Daleks are. Turns out it is a guard, guarding a Dalek race bank (this Dalek doesn't even remember what it was guarding). Now the fun bit. Either the PCs accidentally activate the race bank, or some evil foe (insert your groups Nemesis here) activates it. The PCs CANNOT (this is important) stop the race bank creating a new race of Daleks. Their only option is to destroy the base. The Lone Dalek even agrees to help. But slowly it is remembering! In the end it remembers, but is not bound by Dalek programming, it has free will, or will have if the PCs convince it. Eventually the Lone Dalek helps the PCs but dies as it activates the Self-Destruct. Probably all a bit sci-fi cliche, but an idea to work with.

Nice. Are you picturing the last Dalek as your standard Dalek or are you going back to before they were mutated? IIRC, they were humanoid way back when.

To lessen the cliche and heighten the Dalek fearsomeness, he could be exterminated by the advancing new Dalek Supreme pretty casually before even getting a chance to self-destruct. But he knows that will happen, and sets his armour to explode once he dies.
I'm picturing this happening in a vital connecting corridor, which he brings down to let the characters escape and warn the universe. "WE ARE COMING! RUN!"
(Of course, that wouldn't work with a Kaled-style human(oid) guard.)

I was picturing a standard Dalek, or at least classic era Destiny of the Daleks type Dalek. Being exterminated by the oncoming Daleks is of corse another option.

You will want to take a few precautions to deal with the "PC factor". I mean things like: "Hey look, it's a Dalek. Quick shoot it!"
You could have the Dalek save them from a Slyther or Varga plant, perhaps from high up on some ridge to give the players a chance to discuss and take a different approach than "Dalek - fight". I find whenever I have a good story idea, it's worth taking ten minutes to ask myself, "how will the PCs mess this up?"

Just an idea, but what if the Dalek was one of the Daleks created with the "Human Facttor" (Evil of the Daleks)?. It could have been left to secure a race bank of standard Daleks during the conflict.
It could exlain why the Dalek doesn't act like a Dalek and fit right in with Classic Series continuity. You could even have it misidentify a PC as the Doctor, Jamie or Victoria during the intial encounter, and act uncharactersitcally freindly and playful.

I really like this idea and will more than likely tweak it into an episode. Full credit, of course. It works so well with my fluxing time lines theme of appearances and natures. Thanks.
Also, it's fairly well established that Daleks don't really do well on their own and , at least in the new series, are also susceptible to madness, so this may not be too far fetched for even a 'normal' Dalek. Just a thought.

Just a thought. If you do use this idea I'd love to hear how it turns out. I'm thinking this may be my 2nd or 3rd story when I start running again in the New Year.

I think I might use this for one of my up coming sessions, really like the way this one sounds.

hi, cool idea. as a thought perhaps the last dalek, after remembering that it is a dalek and that daleks are BAD, still cant stand the idea of its own race becoming extinct. IT activates the race bank, using its own DNA as the activation code. Its last words are something like 'perhaps this time things will be different...' before it self-destructs. Perhaps this time things will be different...?
