Has anyone every compiled a list of all the various aliens & monsters and what book their stats are listed in, as has been done with traits and other things?

From the lack of responses, I guess not. It's something that has vaguely crossed my mind in the past. But with the majority of monster stats being in the Doctors Sourcebooks series, it's fairly obvious where to look for something. There are also the stats in the different editions of the core rulebook, Aliens & Creatures and All the Strange, Strange Creatures, plus a few waifs and strays in other supplements, any of which may include additional creatures or variations on the main stats. But by and large, most things are relatively easy to locate. I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to create a spreadsheet for reference though.

From the lack of responses, I guess not. It's looking that way. It's something that has vaguely crossed my mind in the past. But with the majority of monster stats being in the Doctors Sourcebooks series, it's fairly obvious where to look for something. Yeah, but it's not quite as obvious as that. Aawhile back, I needed to look up the stats the stat Roboform and after checking the obvious places (10th Doctor Sorurcebook, Aliens & Creatures, etc.) I discovered that they were only in the 10th Doctor Edition Core Rules. So I started to wonder what other one off stats are tucked away somewhere. Plus not every GM knows where/what Doctor first faced some some creature, and so what book to look in. Yeah, maybe cut & paste entries and page numbers from the table on contents or index. I was thinking of taking a stab at it but didn't want to duplicate the work if someone had already done so. It might help GM's if the various subtypes of the reoccurring foes were cataloged with source and page reference. Maybe even note where stats were changed in latter books such as with the Ice Warriors. If you want to do it just say so, and I gladly step aside. If not I'll give it a try, since I was the one who brought it up.

Please don't let me stop you. Oh, I'd let you stop me, but efforts to stop me have been sub-Wonka (i.e. " No...don't...stop.") So I guess I'm stuck with the hot potato. I've gone through Aliens & Creatures, All the Strange Strange Things, Silurian Age, 10th, 11th, Limited and 12th Doctor Core rules, and the 1st Doctor Soursebook. It's a start. I wondering if I should do a listing of famous people (Marco Polo, Kublai Khan, etc.) too? And maybe add in page references for aliens from the Expanded books as well? IS there anything else we'd like to add a list for while I'm at it?

IS there anything else we'd like to add a list for while I'm at it? This is the problem - where to draw the line. If you decide to catalogue historical celebrities, I'd suggest having a separate section for them. As for the EU sourcebooks, I'd say not to include them as not everyone is interested in them as opposed to the TV series. Actually, I've got a master index of the expanded universe entries which I've been keeping up to date. Maybe I should post a link to that here - it currently runs to 30 pages!

This is the problem - where to draw the line. I noticed. Once I hit the Doctor's Sourcebooks I started to see all sorts of things that might do with a listing. Companions, bits of tech such as vehicles and weapons. Nothing says somebody can't do them at a latter date. If you decide to catalogue historical celebrities, I'd suggest having a separate section for them. Yeah, basically a page with historcial people. I was thinking of doing something similar with Daleks, Nestne and Cybermen as they have several variants. I'll still keep them in the main index, but include a sidebar so people who just need to find stats for a particular subtype can just check out the sidebar. As for the EU sourcebooks, I'd say not to include them as not everyone is interested in them as opposed to the TV series. Actually, I've got a master index of the expanded universe entries which I've been keeping up to date. Maybe I should post a link to that here - it currently runs to 30 pages! Okay, I'll leave the EU stuff out of it. I think you should post your master index in some form. If you need a 38 page document to keep track of where everything is, then imagine what it must be like for someone who wasn't involved with the EU to find something specific. BTW, I think once I get this done, I'll go through the stats and compile them into a database of some kind. I won't be able to post it but it would be nice to pull of a specific writeup when I want one, instead of having to dig through the various supplments - even if I know where to look most of the time.

On a related note, I didn't see stats for the Meddling Monk in either the First Doctor Sorucebook or the Expanded First Doctor Sourcebook. How can that be? He is the first Time Lord to appear, other than the Doctor, and the first reoccurring villain (yes the Daleks appear in multiple stories, but not the same Daleks).

Stats for the Monk appear in The Time Traveller's Companion, which was still a very recent release at the time The First Doctor Sourcebook came out. I remember it being discussed at the time and, rightly or wrongly, Cubicle 7 decided not to repeat his stats in the latter due to space limitations. Other incarnations of the Monk have/will be included in the EU sourcebooks, but not the Peter Butterworth incarnation as he's already covered in an official supplement.

Stats for the Monk appear in The Time Traveller's Companion, Yes they are! Thanks. And on that note I have come to the conclusion that a listing of all known Time Lords will be included in my index. I already felt I had to include the various incarnations of Master (the rules still not applying to him) and I had to include Omega because I had included the Master, and then I noticed that the majority of named Time Lords who appear in the sorucebooks are powerful unique characters who could drive a story or even a campaign (except maybe Rodan, but she sort of became the pattern for Romana). So yeah, I'll add a listing of the dozen or so Time Lords who get stats. which was still a very recent release at the time The First Doctor Sourcebook came out. I remember it being discussed at the time and, rightly or wrongly, Cubicle 7 decided not to repeat his stats in the latter due to space limitations. I'd say wrongly. Imagine if this had been the Master's stats and the Third Doctor Sourcebook instead. Still, at least he was covered somewhere. And this does reinforce my view that an index of some sort would be useful. Other incarnations of the Monk have/will be included in the EU sourcebooks, but not the Peter Butterworth incarnation as he's already covered in an official supplement. That's good and all, but I was mostly surprised by what appeared to be a singularity glaring omission in the offical stats, and had hoped it at least got covered in unoffical stats. C7 did such a comprehensive job with first edition that I was surprised not the see the Monk. Glad to know he officially got covered somewhere, just not where I had expected. It seems that I at least, will benefit from an index.

Hullo, folks, (Yes, I am back in the DW: AiTaS/DW RPG fold... ) Here's something to consider... I've been re-reading (or reading afresh) the various books in the line as my new campaign gets started. I've now re-read the original Tennant boxed set, the Aliens & Creatures boxed set, the UNIT Sourcebook, the Time Traveller's Companion, the First Doctor Sourcebook, the Second Doctor Sourcebook, and have started in on the Third Doctor Sourcebook. (The only one in sequence I've not read is the Matt Smith boxed set, because I decided not to buy that at the time.) Anyway, here's the gist of the post. I've been compiling files on the various creatures and aliens, as well as named characters from the series, gadgets, and so forth. (Lots of files.) So when one makes an alien/creature entry for let's say the Daleks, how do you list them? The Tennant boxed set had an entry on them, the Aliens and Creatures boxed set had an entry on them, but the early Daleks are also statted in the First Doctor Sourcebook and the Daleks that the Second Doctor fought are statted up in his sourcebook - and those two sets of stats are different from the ones in the Tennant box set and the Aliens & Creatures boxed set! And we won't even talk about the different types of Cybermen in these early books... So, thoughts?

In the examples you mention, there are valid reasons why the stats change over the life of the TV series. Both Daleks and Cybermen develop in terms of their abilities. So all versions need to be listed. There are other examples though where I'm less certain that there are valid reasons for differences in stats between different sourcebooks and supplements. Nevertheless, differences exist. For the index to be most useful, my thoughts are that it needs to list all instances of stats in different books, whether they are different or not. After all, not everyone has all the books, so if the index only lists some instances, it might not include the book that an individual has for some of the stats.
