Hi all,
As much as I wasn't a fan of the Timeless Child thematically, it blew the door wide open on making different incarnations of the Doctor, so I figured I'd try my hand at it for an upcoming game. Am I missing something or, even with the Experienced Distinction, do you come out at a far lower power level than the Doctor themselves?
Even with the rewrite which says 4 attribute points + 4 extra skill points with the experienced Distinction, without making significant compromises elsewhere, you're looking at a comparatively "dumb" Doctor. I don't mind less skills, they're younger. But when you're physically more frail than good ol' Number 1, something seems a little off. As far as I can tell too, you wouldn't be able to reach those numbers in play, since you're limited in how much you can actually improve your attributes. So, yeah, am I missing something?

The Doctors aren't constructed on the same points as starting characters, even ones with a couple of levels of Experienced. None of them are starting characters - the First Doctor is a couple of hundred years old, at least (probably more given that the Second Doctor is 450 in The Tomb of the Cybermen, and that's not taking into account all the pre-Hartnell Timeless Child incarnations). In all likelihood, only the very first Timeless Child would be built on starting points.
The character creation system isn't intended for players to create characters at that level. So if you want to build a character who's around the same level as any incarnation of the Doctor, you need to do so with far more points than that - in fact, throw away any attempt at balancing the character points-wise and just design it how you envisage it.

The Doctor is not a typical Time Lord, but a special case. Much like how the major characters in other Sci-Fi series and films are typically a cut above starting PCs. I suspect starting PC Time Lords written up by the ruleswill start off closer to Romana I in capabilities.
BTW, do you have some idea of what you want to do with your new version of the Doctor of was it just a experiment to see what you could get?
