This video by the wonderful Tom Scott tells us of an event in the town of Honiton dating back at least 822 years. Its a tradition where back in those days the rich would toss out scolding hot pennies out onto the street for the poor to try and grab at whilst getting burnt as a form of entertainment. Nowadays the pennies are usually warmed up in the sun instead of scolding hot but the tradition still has been on going for years now. It would make for an interesting historical encounter across the 822 years of its history.
