cryptidz.fandom.com/wiki/Tuscumbia_Space_PenguinsThe Tuscumbia Space Penguins is a rather interesting UFO encounter that would make for some unique aliens in the Doctor Who universe outside of Earth as well. Recommend giving this one a read as its most certainly interesting.

After all, we've had rhinos, flies, lions, spiders and scorpions, plus loads more in the novels and audios. Penguins would be a nice addition to the roster of antropomorphic aliens, and they're cute and funny to boot - but they stink to high heaven if you get up close!

I can imagine them scurrying around the Zaggit Zagoo bar walking on the bar itself, dangling their feet appendages off the tables/bar stools, running around doing whatever they want to do really.

Might I suggest a bit of binge-watching of Secrets of the Zoo and Monkey Life? Not only they great television, and far less depressing that most programmes, but there are fascinating insights that could inspire an alien species (sentient or not) or scenario. And one of the SotZ did have a penguin weigh-in and health check recently.....

For some reason, I’m imagining these Space Penguins being the equivalent of the Worms from the Men in Black series.
Not exactly world ending more irritating if anything. With plenty of room for recurring appearances. Even if it is just to act as background NPCs for an alien bazaar.

More of a background alien really for some offworld place but would still be interesting even off world. Might they fill a similar role to the Worms though and say work for UNIT in UNIT US for example like how the UK have the Groske?

For some reason, I’m imagining these Space Penguins being the equivalent of the Worms from the Men in Black series. Not exactly world ending more irritating if anything. With plenty of room for recurring appearances. Even if it is just to act as background NPCs for an alien bazaar. Hmm, two thoughts. Firstly I need to drop the Worms into my games, I'd forgotten about them. Secondly my first thoughts about the penguins were having them mutated by alien technology into something resembling the Killer Penguins in the GURPS Technomancer/Merlin setting with the intelligent penguins having driven humans from the Antarctic Rim.
The scenario I envisage is pretty simple, based on the Base Under Siege structure, blend in bits from The Seeds of Doom and Who Goes There?/The Thing, season with a little Lovecraftian Antarctic adventure from At the Mountains of Madness and serve.
Maybe the Cybermen started converting penguins as spies? Or someone who salvaged some of the tech from The Tenth Planet started practicing on them. Naturally it all went horribly wrong and now the PCs arrive in a near future base where people are disappearing, equipment is being sabotaged and 'wee-hah' sounds in the cold, empty, tunnels of the base.
Oh, and try this for penguin sounds.

Would be interesting to see a different interpretation in that all though they may look close to penguins in size and maybe shape, their behaviour does not reflect penguin's behaviour?

Personally I'm not sure I'd use them as villains, but as quirky allies, noisy and neurotic.

But I could imagine in a Far Future where Earth has touched the stars, Future UNIT has a few aliens working for them. If only to ensure healthy relations between various alien worlds.

A bit like The Kleptons or the Porcians, they’re never going to take over the universe but they do have their uses! I could see maybe on an alien bazaar world, the Space Penguins being among the lower races who inhabit the slums. Could make for useful allies if befriended.

I mean I am sure modern UNIT would allow aliens on their staff though, Zygons for example like the zygon Osgood. Even the Groske.

They are Penguins. Therefore they are a noble, superior species.
Friendly greetings, Horus Lupercal.
