For those of you who aren't aware, "Last Train to Christmas" was a Sky Original film from a few years back which has a rather interesting premise to it.
"In 1985, Anthony "Tony" Towers (as played by Michael Sheen) is a successful nightclub manager who is engaged to his girlfriend Sue Taylor. While travelling to Nottingham for a family reunion with his brother Roger, Tony discovers that he can travel through time via the number of carriages: Whenever he enters the next carriage in the direction the train is heading, he leaps 10 years forward. Whenever he enters the previous carriage, it's 10 years back.
Not only can he travel through the decades: He discovers that he also is able to change the history of the people travelling with him in the train, by changing former decisions in his life. But no matter when or how he changes his decisions, they always seem to come to desperate endings."
It's a rather well done little tale with some excellent attention to detail when it comes to depicting the various time periods and a very . Even if it's let down slightly by a few plot holes. Mainly in how it seems like every important decision in Tony Tower's life was made on trains. Go figure?
So, how to adapt it for a potential Christmas adventure? Well, there are a few ways...
Considering the isolated setting in that, the entire setting takes place on a train it would be easy enough for a Time Lord/group of PCs to land there only to find themselves trapped when their TARDIS suddenly vanishes. With their Time/Space vehicle having become trapped within the limbo of abandoned timelines. From there on out, your PCs have to discover what has happened and in many ways ensure Towers makes the right decisions. With your PCs being the only ones who are aware of the changes in history thanks to their status as Time and Space travellers.
For an added sense of jeopardy, perhaps due to one of Tony's changes in history one of the Time Lord PC's companions finds their existence threatened or worse erased completely? Or, for a more obvious threat, maybe these jaunts throughout time are unstable and are slowly breaking down? Timelines and alternate versions of Tony Towers begin to bleed into one another which, if not stabilised, will result in Reapers swarming the train devouring everyone in sight!
And then of course, there are adventure seeds that could be explored further with regards to this adventure. Just why was Tony Towers bestowed this strange gift? And by whom? And is the only one in history to have experienced this bizarre phenomenon? And what of the train itself? Is there any possible relation between this train and SCP-052?
