Evening all,
Whilst the Mortimus campaign is on a break, I will be running a spin-off U.N.I.T. campaign focusing on a bunch of new recruits. These recruits will be based primarily in the Washington Branch of U.N.I.T. under the direct command of the mysterious 'Mr Bones' (See his write up in the stats section.)
Their first assignment will be dealing with reports of strange animals and other such creatures running amok in a small town in South Dakota. Said creatures will turn out be cartoon characters who have been brought to life in the real world. The catalyst being a recent film festival showcasing the early days of animation.
So yeah, not exactly the most serious starts to a campaign but I thought it would be a bit of fun and highlight just how strange some adventures can get even when you don't possess a TARDIS. Would also act as a hint towards a potential storyline idea I have but I will save that for another time.
Now here's the thing I have been struggling on and which I would appreciate your help on. How to stat the blasted things.
I was thinking perhaps the Immortal/Fast Healing trait to demonstrate how they are able to recover from any form of damage accompanied perhaps by Shapeshifting to reflect how they can stretch and bend their own form. But I'm not sure what else they could do? If they do in fact need anything else at all?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Also, I just realised you could perhaps use this method to stat out the characters of 'The Crooked World' for when the Eighth Doctor EU sourcebook rolls around.

I’d say that your best bet would be to give the toons fast-healing and immortality. Perhaps the only thing that could stop them is making them laugh themselves to death or by having a certain kind of chemical introduced. Perhaps an old experiment from 1947 created by a crazed balding wild-eyed man with brown eyes claiming to have been a scientist. In all honesty, I’m curious to see just how you pull this off. Best of luck and can’t wait to see how this plays in to Mortimus’s story down the line. If you need an in-universe explanation for the toon’s durability, I’d recommend watching Deadpool vs The Mask Death Battle. Also because it’s hilarious.

OK I have to admit the first thing I thought was this is perfect for the Misfit Mob...
As for the traditional resilience of cartoon characters, I think lots of Story Points and an Immunity (Kinetic Weapons) matched with a Vulnerability, maybe Dip?
Hope this helps.

How to stat the blasted things. Don't. They're NPCs. Give them whatever attributes and skills they may need, but don't bother writing up their traits. They do what you want them to do.

For some reason this made me think of the original Mary Poppins. The way that they filmed the cartoon sections, they used a special type of lens and focusing Crystal that has never been replicated since. This allowed people and animation to be filmed together in a completely unique way and Disney could not replicate this method. Maybe that would be a fun element to add that could be a way to deal with them, or a way that causes them to first start coming to life.
