As the title states, I am planning an adventure for my PCs set sometime in the Golden Age of Hollywood. I was thinking of simply adapting the novel of 'Dying into the Sun' but I think I will save that in the event I ever want to do a sequel or that spin off about a proto Torchwood esque group of investigators set during the era I have been thinking about doing. As it states in the Second Doctor EU sourcebook (Once again, marvellous work from all of you) I want to depict the era as a both a place of glitz and glamour whilst also showing or at least hinting at the grim and gritty reality of show business.
I thought the Ravens of Despair would make for a good antagonist (not to mention it would give me a good excuse for using them finally) and had the basic idea for an adventure but would greatly appreciate any advice or ideas you lot might have to greatly develop it. The adventure would involve a recent spate of suicides from many young and aspiring actors with the studios completely unaware of what is causing them (They are far more concerned about their loss of earnings) It would eventually be revealed to be the work of a group of Ravens aided by a mysterious third party who have been unleashed upon Los Angeles. They have been feeding themselves on the despair of the actors who are unable to fulfil their hopes and dreams of becoming stars. Their goal? To open a wormhole directly to the Rook World and eventually swarm not just the city but the planet itself, draining it completely dry leaving only a husk. The PCs alongside an intrepid young reporter and an aspiring young actress must stop the Ravens and their enigmatic benefactor from achieving their masterplan. (Naturally, this could also lead to many famous historical figures assisting ala a typical Doctor Who episode. Have yet to decide on an specific year but I do rather like the idea of someone such as a young Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland helping the PCs fend off the Ravens much to the chagrin of the studioheads. Could also add some extra jeopardy with their being the constant danger that they could be killed and the entirety of movie history being changed.)
"The City of Angels is infested with Ravens. And no one is safe."
So, what do you think? Any ideas you might have to further develop the adventure?
