So as a follow-up to my Repurposing Movie Plots, here's a section where you can reimagine various video games as scenario seeds for your adventures. Here's a few of mine:
Isolated (Based on Alien: Isolated)-
Introduction:
The players agree to assist in helping a company to evacuate the residents of a futuristic-styled space travel corporation (basically airports but with space ships instead of planes). Unfortunately, when they get there, they find the place abandoned and discover why. An old enemy species of theirs (take your pick), has taken over, and the company wants the species brought back so they can study the creatures and make their own version. To make matters worse, the station's androids have malfunctioned and are now targeting everybody seeing everyone as a hostile. The players must evacuate those who came, stop the species, and prevent the company from getting their hands on the creatures.
Things To Do:
Explore the facility, craft items, study the record logs.
Antagonists:
The Company, whatever species you choose to use in place of the Xenomorphs, the Android Helpers.
Action Scenes:
Fighting back against the species, evading/figting the Android Helpers, crafting items, evacuating the station.
Visuals:
Alien: Isolation, obviously. Or just kick back and watch the first two Alien movies back-to-back.
Problems:
The Android helpers have a neural mind and even if one is somehow reprogramed, there's still over a dozen more to deal with.
Things To Prepare For:
This is very much a survival game. The reason I think Isolation worked so well is because of the fact that unlike the mega-flop that was Colonial Marines, it dared to step (mostly) away from FPS material that the Alien Franchise had become known for. Don't have people running around finding too many guns. Instead, encourage crafting as a means of both improvising, and themes on Survival.
Continuing The Adventure:
The Company could become a recurring villain. It would not be the first time a Doctor Who story dealt with a dangerous corporate business as Titan Comics The Eleventh Doctor Year One dealt with the Doctor dealing with such a case, but on a much larger scale.
The Pages of Death (Based on Slender: The Eight Pages)-
Introduction:
The players find somebody in the middle of the woods rushing to collect pages. They realize that a creature is hunting him that appears whenever another page is collected. It cannot be killed by any conventional means. It turns out the creature is caught between our reality and another, similar to the Cybermen of Pete's World during the Battle of Canary Wharf
. It is attracted to the pages which are in fact, part of the creature, but have gone out of sync with it. Now the players must find a way to reunite the creature with his pages before it kills them all.
Things To Do:
Explore the surroundings, collect the pages
Antagonists:
Slenderman (You can even rename him if you wish)
Action Scenes:
Trying to get the pages together, and back into the creature's frequency.
Visuals:
Slender: The Eight Pages.
Problems:
Much like the Weeping Angels, The Creature can pop out at anywhere and at any time. What's worse is that the longer one looks at him, the less time it will take for him to kill you. Also there's the problem of trying to get the pages back to him.
Things To Prepare For:
This is very much a jump-scare story like Blink. However, do try and not overdo the jump-scares. Have them be well-paced and far apart. Also, don't be constantly making jump-noises. Scary scenes can still be made without the need for jump sounds. Look at Halloween 6: The Director's Cut for further proof.
Continuing The Adventure:
New sets of pages start turning up. Someone has the idiotic idea to turn it into a book. Now the players must collect the book copies before the creature kills those who buy the cursed literature.
I'll post more soon!
