After picking up the new hardback 12th regeneration rules, I was inspired to get some Doctor Who gaming on. I'm fortunate in that one of my best friends is also my neighbor and also another hardcore gamer.
We were able to get in a short, very rules light start last night. I was a cruel bastich of a GM and wouldn't even tell him the system, rules or anything ... just "something science fiction I'm not normally so Player disenfranchising. Some report-out / summary ... :
The launch was - perhaps cliched - him (as the Doctor) having finished regenerating. He was in some strange space, no memories, and experiencing body dismorphia. We riffed from there, and I answered his questions based on what he did - which was interestingly listening before opening his eyes.
As he began to explore, he discovered three piles of ash and scoetch marks (turned out to be jus last set of companions), and four small saucer things (closet sized at their center, with a door-ish thing ... these were un-Chameleoned TARSISes) - three of which were badly damaged, and one less so but clearly older if not ancient.
He then discovered his C.O.M.P.A.N.I.O.N. - a female voice in his head who began to answer questions, with lots of holes. Some of the data he learned:
* meaningless bio identy number / code
* He was a Gallifreyian
* He was one of the last two such beings
* He had reconnected with the Life Equation
* "When / what time was it" was a meaningless question
* The time index was uncompiled
He investigatd the gallery from there, eventually finding a man, well dressed in a Victorian mourning suit, facing a massive view screen of strange space.
Banter ensued as the completely confused and amnesiac Doctor chatted with the very smug but nonetheless glad to share this moment with you old friend Master.
The Master got in the first part of the snappy dialogue - apparently surprised to see the Doctor regenerate ("I had thought you on your last, to be fair"), happy to have the only person to share the moment with ("You can help me shape it. I'll name a unit of measure after you"), and somewhat displeased that his old foe / friend lacked his memory and charm ("You're usually a little ... well, a lot smarter than this. How disappointing").
The moment being witnessing this birth of everything at the dawn of time ("Really? You're usually a lot more rulesy about these things"). The Master was just preparing to "back up" a little more and then they would see that moment and give (re)birth to everything.
"I am called Krona as of late ... but you have always called me The Master, just as I have always called you ... the Doctor."
At which point, the Doctor sprung into action, delays the backup long enough to know the Master off guard. Struggle, then backup and the monitor began to show the moment. Seeing an outline of a great hand, the Doctor ran as the Master watched ... the screen exploding, everything began destabilize into norhing ...
The Doctor reaches a TARDIS, can't access it (not his), overrides it via C.O.M.P.A.N.I.O.N., tumbles in and manages to jump ... randomly choosing 2000 AD under pressure.
After some turbulence, the TARDIS arrived, apparently in London or at least the U.K.
The fact that the Doctor had survived (by jumping via TARDIS) from the dawn of time rebooted the universe and recreated the Vortex.
Time to explore the universe, and repair the TARDIS.
Obviously, I'm looking at a non-canon game.
Typed via tablet, so forgive the typos the crept in I'm sure.
