Hello! I've just recently purchased my copy of AiTaS (10th Doctor version), and, as it ships to me, I've been trying to gather together and/or purchase any additional things I may need for it. Well, that said, this will be my first experience with an RPG, and I know next to nothing about what's what, sooo I have a question...
What is the 'Game Master's Screen', as it's called, and is it important or nessecary to gameplay?
At first I thought it was just an actual screen that the GM would hide thier storyline notes and such behind, but I've also read that it has 'important information', so I'm rather confused.

GM screens are both a means for the GM to hide their notes and dice rolls from the players, and a quick rules reference for the GM. The side facing the players will have artwork on it, while the GM's side will contain rules reference material. For the DWAITAS GM screen, this includes the Difficulty Levels table, the Success Ladder and Results table, conflict summaries, etc. Personally, I prefer to have a GM screen any time I'm running a game, but it varies depending on the GM. Some GMs work better with them, some can do fine without them, and some feel they just get in the way. If this is your first time running though, it'd definitely be a handy thing to have.

Oohhh, it's sort of both then, that makes sense! Thank you! Sounds like I should certainly look into getting it, or a version of it (The prices I'm finding... eek.). I'm not sure if I'd need the screen function or not, but that reference guide would definitely be handy to have around while I'm trying to get used to how everything works, and much less cumbersome and distracting than flipping through the in-box information/instruction book(let(s)?) to look things up during the session .

The 10th Doctor screen has been out of print for some time, which is why you see it for ridiculous prices. An 11th Doctor screen has been "forthcoming" for a couple of years or more and there's still no sign that it'll be available any time soon - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they skip the 11th Doctor altogether now and wait until they can do a 12th Doctor version.
Unless you can find one at a reasonable price, I'd say that this is nice to have rather than a necessity.

In my opinion the screen was priced way to highly to start with as it doesn't come with anything else (adventures, GM tools etc) that other games usually have. I got mine half price from amazon but you can do just as good job scanning all the table from the book and sticking them to a large piece of cardboard.

There are quite a few options for screens these days. You could buy a generic screen like this one, but an even better option is to make one of your own, using a couple of binders, some sheet protectors or whatver else you can lay your hands on. Just Google 'custom gm screens' and you'll get a metric butt-tonne of options for building one easily and on the cheap.

Cleversparrow, i sent you a private message about screen. it's very easy to build, and in my opinion should be better than the original one (relly don't like the front visual)

Thank you all for the advice! Turns out that I have a couple empty binders on hand (Thanks for that suggestion, especially, Pertwee ) so I think I'll be using those, and I might make a collage of screencaps and stick that on the front so it's more Who-ish. We're planning to start our first session pretty soon, so hooray for having things handy and easily accessed.

I just got into this game and am looking for the screen. I note that we are still awaiting the release of the 11th Doctor's screen. It seems the prediction may come true in that this one will be skipped. Ah, well...
