Did anyone else notice the screen is an example of infinite recursion? There is a picture on the screen of the screen itself... which includes a picture, which includes a picture....

Hullo, Null and Void, Did anyone else notice the screen is an example of infinite recursion? There is a picture on the screen of the screen itself... which includes a picture, which includes a picture.... I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that. I think it's kind of cute. Perhaps a bit of an in-joke on the C7 team and the artist who did the piece? Neat, though.

Can anyone tell me what, specifically, appears on the screen? Does the product contain anything other than the screen itself?

I suspect the OP was after landscape, such as the new D&D4 screen, the 'deluxe' M&M screen, and so on. Personally, I much prefer the traditional portrait orientation, but ymmv and all that.

With that format you may have only got 3 panels not 4 though. They are all landscape when you open them out anyway :-)

While I prefer a GM Screen done in a manner that facilitates having everything on it that needs to be there, I like Landscape oriented Screens because they're not excessively high. Some GM Screens that are done up in Portrait are too high to see over at times when one is sitting. For me, the real thing that the DW: AiTaS GM Screen lacked was a booklet, possibly with an adventure in it. Still, it really is a marvellous GM Screen, and is worth its price in gold.

I think a lot of companies are moving away from 'screen plus book' to just 'good quality screen'. Most of the ones I've seen that come with a book are very flimsy, (Serenity and BSG in particular) and 9 times out of 10 the book is very much an afterthought to pad it out and not much use. The only exceptions I know of are some of the old WoD White Wolf screen booklets. I generally prefer a screen that is the same shape as my books as I never actually put it up. I can see the use of a lower screen, but I tend to flatten them on the table or just have it to hand as easy reference. Despite the simplicity of the who system, its a game I oddly find the screen essential for. Each time I run it without I find I've got my fingers in several pages of the GM's book. Most of the time I game in a living room with no table, and even if I have a table I hate having any form of barrier between me and the players. How does everyone else use the screen? Traditional GM's castle look or just a convenient dice rolling board? :-)

The only exceptions I know of are some of the old WoD White Wolf screen booklets. I agree with your basic assessment of this situation. Game companies these days are moving away from the GM Screen with content book to a format of a good quality screen, spending the money on that rather than adding in the 24-page booklet that used to be so common in the old days. You're right about the booklets frequently just being extra padding with no real content, although I still remember the old BLUE PLANET rpg GM Screen, where the booklet had a ton of Adventure Seeds. Of course, the screen itself was beautiful and was a landscape screen. (Ah, the memories.) That BLUE PLANET screen ranks up there with me along with the one for HOLLOW EARTH EXPEDITION. The DW: AiTaS Screen is up there in the top three as well. I hadn't really thought about it in terms of the shape of the screen matching the books, but this does make sense, especially when it comes to storage or putting it on a shelf and all. I use the GM Screen primarily to hide the scenario notes and the like, as opposed to dice rolls, although it is convenient for that as well! I feel the same way about the DW: AiTaS Screen as you do. Despite the simplicity of the game, without the GM Screen I had pencils or post-it flaps in about six or seven places in the GM Guide. The GM Screen for the game has made my life much simpler in terms of running the game, and puts many of the basic tables where I need them when I'm running the game. Most of the time I game in a living room with no table, and even if I have a table I hate having any form of barrier between me and the players. Interestingly enough, I used to game in the living room without a table, but started gaming at a table again about a year ago, given that I've had problems with my back and all. I prefer the informality of the living room floor myself, but the players in my Sunday group tended to isolate themselves in corners and the like. Made things difficult, at times. Btw, how do you take game notes? Paper and pencil, laptop, tape recorder, or some other way?

I suspect that October is Amazon's best guess, so probably not reliable. In fact, I'm sure I read somewhere recently (can't remember if it was on this forum or C7's own forum) that the process of getting GM's screens produce is that C7 wait until they need to get screens for a number of games printed. For cost reasons presumably. So although there'll be a new DWAITAS screen somewhere down the line, there's no definite date for it yet.

I was told a few weeks ago that the new edition has been printed and is currently being shipped to the C7 USA warehouse before also being dispatched to the UK.

The GM screen is discontinued and no one seems to sell it at a decent price anywhere. Is there word on if C7 will release a new 11th Doctor Screen? Not sure discontinued is the right word, We just ran out of the print run a while ago. Not sure if the new one is quite at the printers yet as we were gathering a crop to send from many of our lines. But even though I've spent the last week with Dom at GenCon we didn't get much chance to chat so I could easily be wrong! :-)

Maybe the UK warehouse who provide mail order fulfillment for C7 got it a bit wrong. They mentioned they had been printed and were en route to the US warehouse. But maybe they are still at the printers. Available soon, anyhow.

I didn't know what else to call it. And I figured with the new design coming out they wouldn't print any more of the Tennant version. EVERYONE loved the screen which is why I'm hoping I can pick one up to use in my games. ;D

Looks like an 11th Doctor edition screen is available for pre-order on Amazon. I'm assuming the content will be identical to the 10th Doctor version. One thing that might be different is the most bottom/right panel that lists useful Gamemaster's Guide pages. Did the page count change in the GM Guides from 10th Doctor to 11th? That would be an issue if they did.
