hhmm. I kind of like the original old version better. I agree. The new one is cool, but is not balanced as well as the original. That rug really tied the room together... I mean that CLOCK really brought it together.

"I have said before on here I think, but I can't stand them. Box set's fall apart relatively quickly where as I find hardcover books start to go based on wear and tear, and softcover seem to last for years. I would much rather have these supplements as proper books rather than box sets. "
My solution is to transpaseal the boxes all over-my original FASA boxed set is still going strong with its Blue Peter sticky back plastic reinforcement.

Actually the 11Doctor Edition has a VERY well made box. It's way thicker than the old FASA box.

I dont mind the new cover. What makes me sad is that as far as i can see all of the C7 release dates in that issue are very very wrong

Is the Time Traveller's Companion to be a box set or are they moving to books? One of the fine young ladies in the C7 GenCon booth said something about BBC giving in on the box set policy.

It will be a single book.
We've now got the ability to do books so I beleive the supplements will all be books now.
Now the BBC knows more about the game it is clearer that us doing books isn't a challenge to the novels licence.
The UNIT book will also be a book I believe, as will the books on each of the Doctors that are on the way.

Wow. my NDA prevents me from going into details, but i think a book is a TERRIBLE way to release TTC. We're going to lose so much cool stuff. Sad.

I've had to reformat everything. And while, yes, that means a lot of stuff has been removed from the product, it has either been reformatted to fit in a book or replaced by new material. And a lot of stuff that's been cut will see the light of day very soon, including the entire 11 Doctors chapter in PDF for download and separate card sets to expand on the now table based version of the Regeneration, Misjump and Damage rules. The book is still in two parts, technically, as the first 5 chapters are a player section and will be released separately as a Player's TTC for purchase alongside the full book. That way, your players can have a Player's Guide for the TTC for less than the cost of the full book, the secrets and stats of which you can keep to yourself.

Having seen the card formatting in the 11th doctor set, i was eagerly awaiting seeing all your cool TTC work in that format. those cards would have been cool-all the rules stuff and especially 11 character chards for all the Doctors. Sigh.

Okey-dokey, for the record, I have submitted a PDF to Dom for Approvals. Once it returns, I'll have to do a final edit, replace the pg.xx numbers, add the index and add bookmarks to the sale PDF. So soon, baby, soon.
Incidentally, for the record, it is entirely my delay that kept the thing from being done a few weeks sooner. With grad school and work projects building up to a ridiculous level lately, I've been slow on finishing the TARDIS sheet. But, in my defense, creating something that can be used to run a TARDIS, using all the rules in the book, and still fit on the front and back of an 8.5x10.625 piece of paper is perhaps one of the most challenging bits of graphic design I've ever engaged in. I think I succeed with flying colors and will endeavor to get permission to show it off soon.
Also, the book has 'Quick & Dirty' time travel sheets for those who like rules light gaming, including a 'Quick & Dirty' TARDIS sheet. So really there are two TARDIS sheets as well as a general time travel device sheet. That should allow for a wide variety of gaming styles and brings the final book (with the 16 Temporal Phenomena Expert Cards) to exactly 240 pages.

I'm so excited about this particular release. But WOW! that's a lot of reworking to do.
I'm glad supplements will be able to be released as single books (that should help cut down on costs), but I did quite like how the Aliens & Monsters box set came with creature cards.

I can vouch that Pertwee does awesome work. That's the basis of my being saddened that this is a book. Pertwee had some damn cool card ideas for the TARDIS and temporal phenomenon and other coolness and i wish you all could have seen them.
That said, its still gonna be a damn cool book.

That said, its still gonna be a damn cool book. When it hits the shelves... I appreciate the frustration, but please also appreciate the massive and tiring amount of work that went into the product, especially with rebranding, reformatting and working simultaneously on the core box and grad school and a full time job. I'd appreciate it if folks didn't respond to my good news re: going to approvals, with negative responses. It is closer now then it has ever been. Barring any approval snafus, the sale PDF is right around the corner. Just exercise a bit more patience...

I suspect that will be available, but we've got into a system where we only offer pre-orders when we have the pdf ready to go to print. That way you get the pdf when you preorder and we avoid the delays we've had by being over optimistic about when it'll see print!

Agreed. I may be antsy about getting hold of it, however, would never disparage the creative minds behind it. Speaking as one of those creative minds :-) I'd offer that everyone is due respect and consideration, one of the nice things about this forum is that is generally the case. I should say also that people should be free to discuss what they don't like about products, or even have a bit of a moan if C7 hasn't come through. After all, we can only sort problems if we know they are there. There are also going to be times when we can't fit everything we want to into a product. Its useful to hear what you thought should have been there as we can explain why it wasn't, or consider putting it in a future supplement. While any writer loves to hear how much people like their stuff, I'm happy to hear what people didn't like as long as it is an articulate comment. When we move towards 'dude, that sucks, cos like, its full of suckage' then it stops being useful :-)

You've hit the nail on the head as to the difference between "criticism" (or even "creative criticism") and "opinion". Opinions are only useful for reactions, not for actions.

Pertwee, and other official-type persons here on the forum, my apologies for any and all offence caused by my post. I'm looking forward to this as much as the next man here and I do appreciate the amount of work that goes in to getting these things out to us. I also appreciate that your official communications have been getting a lot better of late, not least having your good selves here on the forums. I shall refrain from such comments in future.

In case anyone missed this on RPG.net, here is the contents of the Time Traveller's Companion written by the author himself:
Chapter 1: Into the Vortex Intro for the player's section.
Chapter 2: The Shining World of the Seven Systems Gallifreyan history and culture as known by the general populace, including rules for making non-Time Lord Gallifreyan PCs.
Chapter 3: I Walk in Eternity Advanced rule for Time Lords including rules for making Time Lords from specific Chapters, Time Lord Traits and new regeneration rules.
Chapter 4: Temporal Mechanics 101 Explanations of temporal phenomena, descriptions of time travel gadgets, and new rules for time travel.
Chapter 5: The TARDIS Everything you ever wanted to know about a TARDIS, including TARDIS Traits, rules for TARDIS damage, repair and growth, and rules for custom building your own TARDIS.
Chapter 6: Master of Time And Space The intro to the GM section.
Chapter 7: Dark Secrets of the Time Lords The secret histories and events that were kept hidden from the populace because it was 'good for morale.' Also, rules for some really scary Gaillfreyan tech *cough* 'Apocalyptic Gadget Traits' *cough* and the biodata extracts for a host of Time Lord renegades and villains.
Chapter 8: Last of the Time Lords? Advice for setting up a campaign with another Time Lord or Time Lords besides the Doctor, including extensive info for setting campaigns in the pre-Time War period. It also offers advice on judging regeneration and info on Watchers.
Chapter 9: Advanced Temporal Mechanics All the GM advice and mechanics for the temporal phenomena described in Chapter 4, along with an adventure seed for each one. This section contains the details of some very unique time travel devices like SIDRATs and DARDISes, advice on judging TARDIS use and handling the device in your campaign and a set of Quick and Nasty Time Travel rules, a more 'seat of your pants' method for the GM to handle time travel. Finally, there is a section on running non-TARDIS time travel campaigns.
And then of course you have the TARDIS Sheet, an Expert Cards sheet and Reference Sheets with some of the tables found in the book.
All the material in this book is drawn from the entire televisual history of the programme, either directly or from direct inference, and there are more than a few bits and bobs to allow you room to include some of the extant material as well. In all, the TTC is a massive guidebook as well as a rules supplement for DWAiTaS.

Woo! I just ran my second game (with the 11th Doctor set), and that list of chapters is exciting. The option to run more rules heavy or light (the 'Quick & Dirty') is also interesting. I am still finding what balance my players want there.
