Oooh, interesting. I'll believe it when I see it, mind. Remember when Stephen Fry was going to write an episode for the new show? Ah, well. I'm just a cynic. I've got a custom title to prove it

Well, yes... Though, to be fair, I thought it was RTD that kept bumping Stephen Fry's script until it just wasn't practical to air. I could be wrong though... I frequently am.
I understand Neil Gaiman is supposed to be writing a script as well.

My understanding was that Fry's script had to keep going back for redrafts and - because of his busy schedule - they basically ran out of time. It'd still be great to see it one day though. Really hope the Moorcock book materialises - he's one of my favourite authors ( as long as he doesn't make The Doctor another aspect of The Eternal Champion; that would just be too cheesy!)

Now that you mention it, he does fit the mold of the Eternal Champion quite well... He travels between the worlds with his eternal companion at his side. He works for the balance and wield the runestaff (in the form of his sonic screwdriver) against the forces of both chaos (Daleks) and Law (Time Lords). If he ever had an eternal love, she is lost to him one way or another. He carries the sorrow of having destroyed his homeland (As Elric did to Melnibone and Erekose did to his people). It fits DISTURBINGLY well. Hmmm.... *goes off to read "The Dancers at the End of Time" series again...*

I would expect something far more "out there" and surprising.

I agree... it would be too easy... but it will also be hard for him to get away from that formula as people will see it regardless of how well hidden it might be. But, he is an excellent writer, and I have faith he'll provide us something fantastic...

Though I'm not normally either an optimist, OR a conspiracy theorist, I'm still going to hope. Notice in the article he is only denying that he is writing an episode called 'Faces in the Dust' and carefully avoids saying thathe's NOT working on a story for it either. In his words, he's "been having much too much fun not denying anything about Doctor Who" I take that to be a very coy way of saying he *might* be working on something... just not Faces in the Dust.

I like your optimism, son ( the newest second-hand book store in our town has a pile of old Moorcock books which I'm slowly adding to my collection of 'books to read next year' - several Jerry Cornelius and Legends From The End of Time - which I hope might be inspirational for my game)

I always had a hard time wrapping my head around the Jerry Cornelius stories. The Dancers at the End of Time however, remains a favorite, and I'm actually looking forward to doing something with a similar concept for the game... just hugely powerful, bored beings, that have little idea of what the past is all about, and have seen and done just about everything.
