The following is a no muss no fuss alternative character sheet I've been working on (discussed here). The graphic is a 72dpi preview (click image to view). The PDF uses 200dpi graphics, so hopefully it ought to look nice when printed The character sheet was designed using Macromedia Fireworks 4, Inkscape, and Scribus. The awesome background graphic was kindly supplied by Robert Saint John. The type used is Industria. The PDF is currently hosted via googledocs, and is available here or via .zipped attachment here on the forum. Attachments:

Many thanks Kaemaril, this is a fantastic sheet which I will definitely be using. I love the handy inclusion of the success chart and difficulty numbers!
Cheers

A new version, 1.01, is available. Same content, but now using PDF version 1.5 layers. * The background graphic can be disabled to conserve ink when printing * If you've memorized the successes and/or difficulty numbers so no longer need them, they too can be switched off - thus freeing up some additional space for notes, doodles, etc. The file has been uploaded to GoogleDocs here. Also available as an attachment in this very thread Attachments:

Hello all!
My first post here, as I still await the arrival of my order from amazon. I LOVE this character sheet, especially with the layers feature, but just have one question. I can turn the layers I don't want off in Adobe Reader, but they are still there when I print them out. What am i ding wrong? Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm at work at the moment, but I'll look into this when I get home. It might be something I'm doing in Scribus, or maybe a bug. According to some quick googling I've done, by default Reader should only print visible layers, but it's possible for a PDF author to override this (for watermarks, copyright notices, etc) - maybe I've somehow done that without realizing ... Meantime, apparently if you have a look in the layer properties window in reader it might be possible to override this ... have a look in your reader documentation under 'Print Layers'. Possible options, it seems, are Always Print, Never Print and Print When Visible (the default)

I can turn the layers I don't want off in Adobe Reader, but they are still there when I print them out. What am i ding wrong? Is anyone else having this problem? OK, this - as far as I can make out - is pretty stupid. Scribus gives you options to make a layer visible and a layer printable in the layer dialogue. As far as I can make out, however, if you specify that a layer is printable it is always printable and not just the PDF default of 'Printable when visible' ... and so far I've not found an (easy, documented) way to change that. So, until I can find that, here's a special version of the layered PDF ... with the background layer EXPLICITLY TURNED OFF when it comes to 'printability'. You should be able to see it on screen, but the background should never print. It's here: docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B4GH8CHbMoQrYjg4MGZjOWItNzZhMi00ZjBlLTgwZjUtNjNlYjU1MmYyODY5&hl=enAnd if that still doesn't work, just for you I'll upload a version with no background at all I really hate it when you find annoying little 'features' like this ...

That is a great character sheet. Glad you like it Development work has stopped at the moment 'cos I had a bit of a PC crash and I've spent large chunks of the past week fixing bits and pieces. At the moment I'm using my macbook as my 'primary machine' and it doesn't have any decent graphics software on it

Hullo, Kaemaril, Development work has stopped at the moment 'cos I had a bit of a PC crash and I've spent large chunks of the past week fixing bits and pieces. At the moment I'm using my macbook as my 'primary machine' and it doesn't have any decent graphics software on it I had wondered where you'd disappeared to, since we hadn't seen you around here for a bit and all, Hope things are well, and that the machine will be repaired sooner rather than later. Good to have you back, mate.

Good to have you back, mate. It's nothing physical, the hard disk just went into conniptions for some reason and trashed large quantities of the OS. Since I wasn't a big fan of the OS in particular, that didn't particularly annoy me. Especially since I had a recent backup (those are important, folks!). I now have two machines : my little 13' macbook pro, and my 15' laptop. No Windows software anywhere near them. Mac OS X and Linux is good enough for me ... I have everything I need except graphics software, since I'm completely unfamiliar with GIMP

Thank goodness I'm not a Photoshop fan. Buying that thingy would take a huge chunk out of the old folding green.
