Anyone remember the story INFERNO? The doctor is transported to an alternate Earth. There were alternates of Liz and the Brig. was there mention of an alternate Doctor?
I seem to think there wasnt an alternate Doctor. I'm developing the theory that there is only one Gallifrey, but lots of alternate universes.

I've not seen Inferno in years. I seem to recall... one of the New Adventures books had something about the Doctor in that universe, but I don't remember it clearly. And again, as for on screen appearances... I can't think of one.

No there was no Doctor in the Inferno universe as far as I can recall. You TV series never mentions Time Lords in alternate universes that I recall either. However, there are mentions of them in some of the books. I wouldn't read too much into it though - Gallifreyans are the most xenophobic isolationist race in the universe and go out of their way to never draw attention to themselves. Not only that, the books say that the Gallifreyans are especially paranoid when it comes to alternate universe versions of themselves. In the Faction Paradox mythos, Universes aren't "alternate", they are deriviative child universes from common ancestry floating in Ur-Space (the Void) www.curufea.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=FactionMultivers

According to The Television Companion, the face of the "Leader" seen on the poster in the Doctor's hut was that of the visual effects designer, Jack Kine. However, in the New Adventures novel TimeWyrm: Revelation, the memoryform of the Third Doctor claims it was his own face he saw in the posters....

I don't know about the books since I've only read one or two, but I don't recall actual xenophobia in the classic TV series. They may be fairly keen on isolation, but possessing an unreasonable fear and/or hatred of other species? Don't recall it. Maybe it's rose-tinted memories, though

Just got my hands on the DVD of that one as well, and looking forward to watching it again for the first time in decades. The Brig never looked better than when he had the eyepatch as Brigade Leader. That said, I'm pretty sure that there was no Doctor in the alternate world.

Thanks for the replies all.
My personal take for my games is going to be that there is only one Gallifrey. Gallifrey and the Time Lords are not reflected in alternate worlds. The Time Lords can [could] visit alternates with ease and need not worry about alternate Time Lords. At least that is how I am handling it in my games.

True, but the aftermath of the Time War also makes travelling to and from alternate universes almost impossible. Still, as good a justification for player character Time Lords surviving the Time War as any.

With the news about Michael Moorcock writing a Doctor Who novel, I've been thinking recently of Gallifrey-as-Tanelorn.
Inferno made no reference to Time Lords or a Doctor-analogue that I recall. OTOH, TurnLeft strongly puts forward the possibility of alternate/parallel versions.

Though, I'm personally inclined to think that the Trickster's plan was to alter the timeline to eliminate the Doctor. I wonder if the Trickster and the Black Guardian are drinking buddies...

The Brig never looked better than when he had the eyepatch as Brigade Leader. Then I'm guessing you know the eyepatch story? For those that don't, it's a well known story told by Nick Courtney at conventions. Nick Courtney has always been a very difficult actor to make corpse (make him slip up or laugh while filming). In the scene in Inferno where he spins around in the chair and is seen for the first time in the eye-patch the rest of the gang tried to make him slip up. As he spun around the rest of the cast were all wearing eye-patches. It backfired, Nick delivered his lines on que while the rest of the cast fell about laughing.

But it was good of you to recount it for those who didn't know it. The first time I heard it was at a DW convention in...damn, I can't remember when it was, but it was out California way, Los Angeles methinks, early 1990s, iirc. Nick told the story himself, and the audience absolutely loved the story.
