Hello there I'm AwfulLotOfRunning and I'm a hopeful DM/TM from Nottinghamshire in the UK. I am hoping to set up a group for roleplaying games; either Doctor Who or Dungeons and Dragons.
Ideally I would want this to be an in-person weekly group, using discord to let each other know if we can't make it and the like. (Just a nice excuse to get off the computer for a bit.) But if that is a non-option I would like to try for an online experience using roll 20 instead.
While I am not new to DMing this might be my first experience playing Doctor Who, so take it easy on me if I don't know the rules by heart. Having fun is more important after all! I also try my best to not take the games I run seriously, so expect a bit of silliness here and there.
As for what we'll playing there will be three options to choose from. Don't worry about the nitty gritty such as house rules or what character you can play just yet. Look at these and
Cymbaili: Civil War
System: Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition
Premise: It is the morning of 6th of Sextilis and word has gotten out about a great tragedy that has befallen the kingdom; The King has succumbed to cancer. With no heir to succeed him, the barons and baronesses of the land are wasting no time in seizing this opportunity to take the throne. Some by raising armies, some by an informal election and some are seeking to band together the nobility to form an Oligarchy.
You will take control of one of Cymbaili’s noble houses to wage war or make peace with the other houses of the kingdom.
Politics: High
Tactics: Medium
Roleplaying: Medium
This campaign is going to take a lot of inspiration from the Fire Emblem series, expect a good amount of diplomacy with rival houses while managing the needs of your own barony. If interest is good enough I will consider investing in kingdoms and warfare shop.mcdmproductions.com/products/kingdoms-and-warfare-book

A Trip of a Lifetime
System: Doctor Who: The Roleplaying Game (Most likely 1st edition)
Premise: You find yourself presented with a choice: Stay at home and have a quiet night in, order a takeaway and catch up on your favourite soap opera; or go on adventure to distant worlds and throughout all of history.
The person offering you this seems human enough, but claims to be a several hundred years old and have a box that can take you to anywhere, and anywhen; but do you trust them as far as you can chuck them?
Politics: Medium
Tactics: Low
Roleplaying: High
This campaign will try to emulate the tropes and atmosphere that’s typical to who fare; ideally taking our characters through short, episodic adventures (ideally lasting one session each) taking them through various science fantasy and historical settings to deal with monsters, aliens and other timey-wimey things. If you've ever read the sherlock holmes nolves
One player will run a Timelord, but not necessarily The Doctor because I don't want to pigeonhole anyone. Depends on what the group is feeling like.
Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden
System: Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition
Premise: The Ten-Towns of Icewind Dale find themselves gripped by an neverending winter’s night. Crops are dying, food is becoming scarce and the people desperate. You, a band of sellswords (mercenaries) have come to this frigid north in search of work, but instead you will find secrets; about the Dale, about each other. Can you stand up to the cold hard truth?
Politics: Low
Tactics: Medium

So yeah, this is going to be a pretty standard playthough of the module. We’ll all make characters, I’ll give you a secret and we’ll just go wherever the wind takes us. I would like to stress though that I would prefer the player characters to have prior history with each other since I feel like its weird that most D&D parties tend to consist of an oddball group who are just travelling together for no reason in particular.
And that should be about it. Let me know if you're interested!
