Ghost Boat (2006) An ITV Drama which starred David Jason. The plot is as follows; a fantasy tale of His Majesty's Submarine Scorpion vanishing during the Second World War, leaving only one crew member (David Jason) surviving. 38 years later, in the Cold War year 1981, the Scorpion reappears; the crew have disappeared, but the vessel is otherwise unchanged and has not aged in the intervening years. A Royal Navy crew along with the sole survivor of the original voyage is given the mission of retracing the last days of the boat prior to its 1943 disappearance. A supernatural influence takes hold of most of the crew, and they start showing characteristics of the old crew. Sounds like the perfect basis for a Who adventure or even an adventure in. Sapphire and Steel campaign with the theme of Time breaking through. Especially if you explore the idea of what force infected the Scorpion back in 1943. Plus, Professor Harding would make for a great one off NPC. (Didn’t think it had enough material for a whole separate thread so I posted it here) That was an excellent mini-series, well worth watching. And, as you say, full of ideas for a scenario. Sapphire and Steel, UNIT, basically anyone could have become involved. Perhaps a German U-boat fitted with advanced technology was involved, and also reappears? Or you could go with the original US sub attacking Japan, or move the incident forward to a sub operating in the height of the Cold War appears in the more-or-less present day, complete with nuclear weapons....

It’s actually really well done. Reminded me a lot of a Sapphire and Steel serial but where the two Operatives never showed up. I imagine that should the Scorpion had succeeded in its mission, Time would have broken through completely and the Second World War would have manifested anew. Phantom Luftwaffe bombing London, Allied and Axis armies locked in an eternal stalemate, dying and being resurrected over and over again. All shadows overlaid over a desolate Earth destroyed by the Cold War made hot. Personally, I’m wondering what it was exactly that brought the Scorpion to the surface at that exact point in time. Had the boat simply spent the last forty years drawing strength? Or was it due to some outside influence? I’m almost wondering if Professor Harding was in actuality in ailing health and whatever force the Scorpion was possessed by (The Captain, possibly?) saw it as it’s last chance to achieve its mission. Perhaps certain individuals within Soviet and British Intelligence know more about what was going on than they let on. It’s hard to decide whether or not an explanation should be given to what infected the Scorpion. Maybe it’s a case of it’s better off left ambiguous?

Hmm Black Sabbath's Iron Man is a good idea for an adventure Basically a man travels into the future using a time machine and sees the apocalypse (could be on Earth or some Earth colony can easily be adapted), in the process of returning to the present though he turns into steel by a magnetic field. His attempts to warn the public and mankind of this impending apocalypse are ignored causing him to well plot his revenge, he only goes and creates the apocalypse he tried to warn people of. Perhaps this apocalypse is not meant to happen and well the timeline has become altered because of it, so your players detect this alteration and have to either convince the public and warn them of this steel man or have to prevent him from travelling into the future and break the impending apocalypse loop.

Another story from the news: Japan baffled by iron ball washed up on beach
It's not a stray mine. It's hollow It's heavy It doesn't appears to be stuffed with espionage intended electronics.
OK, i't probably a mooring buoy that became disconnected and floated off, but that's no reason not to speculate.....

Just a random thought off the top of my head that I feel would work here as the monster for an adventure. Its pretty simple, what would happen if a Krynoid plant had access to carnivorous and/or perhaps poisonous plants?

I could actually see being surrounded with such carnivorous plants making the Krynoid far more aggressive and animalistic. More so than usual.

Now I'm wondering about a Day of the Triffids crossover, experimental station developing the new wonder MacGuffin, whose source is the aforementioned mobile, carnivorous, stinger-armed, plants. Actually they've been mutated by extract of Krynoid. Add the PCs and stir well.

Trapped! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapped!_(TV_series) A popular CBBC game show from around the mid-noughties and the premise is as follows: The show is set in a dark, six-floor fictional tower with windows which, from the opening titles, is situated on a small island in the middle of the ocean. Every episode is introduced by "The Caretaker”, a former world traveller who only came there for one good night's sleep, but he was imprisoned there by "The Voice" To (eventually) earn his freedom, the Caretaker must trap as many children (referred to in the programme as "Unfortunates") as the Voice personally deems worthy Six human children compete on each episode and are brought to the tower by another captive, "Wiley Sneak". Locked in a cage and winced up by The Caretaker via a simple wheel and pully system, the children begin at the top of the tower and must journey down to the bottom; one child is eliminated or "trapped" on each floor, and the last one remaining receives the "Key of Freedom" and escapes. Such a location could make for an interesting setting for a one-off adventure with your PCs either finding themselves trapped here or deliberately making their way here to rescue the kidnapped children. Alternatively, the Caretaker, “The Voice”, Wiley Sneak and the other inhabitants of the Tower could be reimagined and repurposed as Toys and characters in the Celestial Toymaker’s Celestial Toyroom. Or maybe “The Voice” is merely another one of the Toymaker’s siblings?

Some Words with a Mummy en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Some_Words_with_a_MummyA short story by Edgar Allan Poe which also served as one of the early fictional depictions of a revived Egyptian Mummy. Personally, I found it rather dry for my tastes but I definitely think Count Allamistakeo could make for a fun NPC in a Jago and Litefoot or even Paternoster Gang adventure. Hell, maybe the Rani could make an appearance seeing value in the science which has preserved Allamistakeo for all these centuries.

Brush Strokes Plot: Your PCs have to rescue Louis Wain who has been abducted by Cat People who wish to use him to paint a picture of their beloved monarch. Definitely one for your sillier or "abstract" adventures. I'm months late to this thread, but I have to point out that this is one of the best adventure seeds I've ever heard.

scary-stories.fandom.com/wiki/Wait_Till_Martin_ComesA short stories which is rather comedic in tone. Personally, I think it would make for the basis of a good Short Trip style adventure. After who are the Cats? And what is their relationship with the mysterious “Martin”? Do they have a sinister motive or is it far more innocent in nature?

That sounds interesting but isn't what I was thinking of. This series was a lot older and mostly outdoors. I *think* it's Time Busters (wiki) based on some episodes I found on YT.
Fascinating that I hadn't remembered the time travelling bus in the series at all (I do remember a sailing ship displaced froward from the late 1940s with a cargo of explosives), perhaps that subconsciously influenced my design for out current campaign? Hmmmm.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sparticle_MysteryThe Sparticle Mystery was another show on CBBC during the early 2010s that would make for an interesting campaign. Basically, thanks to the power of a Large Hadron Collider like machine, everyone aged 15 and over got transferred to another dimension at exactly 11:11am. The show is about a "tribe" of these survivors trying to figure out the mystery of what happened and bring everyone back thanks to clues left by someone who was working on the project beforehand and disappeared themselves (Played by Annette Badland aka Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.I._HighI also recommend M.I.High as well. Basic premise is that its about undercover child spies at a secondary school but at the same time have to do spy missions to help protect Great Britain whilst maintain their cover. They are rivalled by an evil organisation called KORPS lead by The Grand Master or The Mastermind. This would be interesting for a campaign idea and could easily be adapted with UNIT or Torchwood and hell even have The Master lead the villainous other group as well.

“Your Move”
While travelling in the TARDIS, the Doctor/Your PCs are suddenly confronted by none other than the immortal God that is The Celestial Toymaker. But, something is wrong. He is disheveled with a mad almost fearful look in his eyes. And he is desperately asking for their help. But against what exactly? That’s for your PCs to find out.
Personally, I rather like the idea of your PCs deliberately going to find Hecuba, the Queen of Time to ask for her assistance. Much to the Toymaker’s obvious chagrin.
Would make for a more character focused adventure I think. Looking into and examining the Toymaker’s character beyond his inclination towards games and ensnaring others to play them.

Inspired by some toys I had that were a craze when I were a kid
A new toy has swept the entirety of the UK, small alien-like creatures located within a plastic egg and contained slime inside. These are kept as almost like pets to the children of the UK, inanimate though but of course that is not the case. The toys are actually the young of an alien species that are inanimate when they are young but slowly gains animation and life overtime. The adults of the species intend to use the nurture of children in order to protect and take care of them, the slime within the egg acting as a food source later on.

“He likes John and Gillian’s world very much. Villains are naughty, not evil. People never die and promises are never broken. It’s a place where all the endings are happy ones”
Well, what if someone tried to make that a reality? By force.
Based off a line in the excellent Doctor Who comic strip “Land of Happy Endings”

Cylindrical transparent plastic case contain the 'egg', just add water and watch it slowly expand (took a couple of weeks I think) and 'grow', complete with glowing eyes.
This seems a bit like it, but the one I got my nephew all those years ago wasn't as sophisticated. No WLAN for a start.

The ones I am specifically referring to are called Scardox Alien eggs which were very popular in the 2000s and early 2010s. There were rumours that you could get them pregnant under certain conditions and such like that, of course it was fake but didn't stop the marketing teams then creating new versions that came with baby versions of the aliens that you could pull out of the larger alien. Also came with some thick slime as well.

Perhaps in-game they're something like the Adipose? Or the eggs in the old Buffy episode 'Bad Egg'. That was rather creepy.
