hmm im thinking of a seed involving Kyrnioids in the American Revolution. What other ideas do you ouys have and yes you can comment about mine. My immediate thought when I read your suggestion was a jungle, preferably on an island, in the Victorian/Edwardian era. But I may have that period stuck in my head. Also the Victorian period is a heyday for botany.
So what do we know about Krynoids? They're carnivorous plants from somewhere Out There that can adapt to, and control, Terrestrial plant life, as well as effecting humans minds.
So take an isolated colonial settlement, sometime around the American Revolution. There'd be no glasshouses, due to the lack of industrial glass (especially in the Americas) though there's always the possibility of a fictional, wealthy and visionary scientist. It could be an isolated, rural community (anyone else thinking Sleepy Hollow? Can Krynoids animate corpses?) or a city like Boston (so as to maximise the possibility of problems with Loyalists, revolutionaries, Sons of Liberty, soldiers et cetera; always useful to have a few factions to guide/frustrate the players).
So a seed pod is found and brought to/purchased by Hiram Carpenter, a wealthy physician and scientific dabbler in his 40s. After planting it he starts to hear voices and have strange dreams. Soon his odd behavior is noticed by his friends. Perhaps soon after the PCs arrive they encounter 1. His butler in a tavern complaining about his master's new obsession. 2. A pair of local watchmen discussing grave robberies 3. A sinister pair abroad at night with a tarpaulin shrouded cart. 4. His young, beautiful and distraught wife/daughter. And become involved in a threat that could doom Boston, American Independence and all animal life on Earth.
Hopefully someone has a large stockpile of gunpowder. Any anachronisms of Dr. Carpenter and possible disruptions of history being dealt with by the Krynoid and it's fiery destruction.
For a sequel it's off to London to intercept the second seed pod before it arrives at Key Gardens.
