I have a downloader plugin in my browser so it enabled the download for the .m4a file automatically. If you install FVD, or a similar plugin, or use a website like Y2Mate you can easily download the audio.

My friend Ryan Blake started a Doctor Who RPG podcast and I of course had to be on the first episode (and will be a recurring guest). In the introductory episode, we discuss the current Doctor Who Role-Playing Game and how its rules emulate the show with some accuracy. The Another Universe feature stats out Captain Benjamin Sisko in DW RPG terms. And also includes Part 1 of Ryan's exclusive interview with Cubicle 7! wwdwrpg.wixsite.com/mysite-1/post/episode-one-an-unearthly-podcastI will drop the link to each successive episode in this thread.

As a non-native English speaker, I can listen to audiobooks etc. without any problem but podcasts where people are talking quite rapidly are another matter entirely.

Dave Chapman couldn't provide much in the way of details (due to confidentiality). But he mentioned that he has been working on the next edition of the core rulebook (which will include revised rules, such as character stats no longer including Traits - but will be backwards compatible with all previous releases). Also that Dom is keen on releasing a starter set. The Thirteen Doctor Sourcebook was also mentioned, but only in the sense that one wouldn't be released until after Jodie's era is complete.

Traits would no longer be a feature of the game system??? That's what was said. It was hinted that there would be a different mechanism to make characters more individual, but Dave wouldn't be drawn on the details. If the new rules are to be backwards compatible, my guess is that you could continue to use traits if you wanted - but they won't be covered in the rulebook. We'll see.

Well I'm really skeptical about this... While there are aspects of the game system that could be streamlined, Traits really seem an essential element of the rules, one that gives each character a truly unique dimension (and in a very simple manner)... anyway, as you said, "we'll see". Thanks for the quick replies.

Oh, the other thing that was mentioned that will be included in the revised rules is an experience system. Again, no further details provided.

I interview Pete Murphy one of the founders, GMs and Player of the near-mythical Mikros Doctor Who RPG campaign that has run for over 20 years and regenerated over 3 separate systems. And stay listening at the end for the debut of our new segment ANOTHER UNIVERSE - Where we take characters from other sci-fi/fantasy universes and convert them into the Vortex system and discuss where and how they would fit into a Doctor Who RPG game. I have been impressed with the quality of this podcast so far. Some podcasts are just some people snickering at their own jokes; this one has a good structure and discipline in putting it together.
My main criticism so far: the white noise in the background is WAY too loud. I suppose it's supposed to be some kind of "future tech environment" sound. It should be removed entirely.

I wanted to comment a bit on your character build for Benjamin Cisco.
I'm with you all the way up to his Knowledge of 3. The score is fine, but he shouldn't have an area of expertise in Earth History. He does show some knowledge of Earth history, but he doesn't specialize in it. Knowledge 3 represents a good qualification in a skill, which is a pretty good description of his knowledge of history. He's no historical expert. I might replace it with an area of expertise in baseball history.
As for his area of expertise in Bajor... I wouldn't say so. Remember that when you have a skill, it doesn't mean you can do anything at all covered by that skill. Having Knowledge 3 only lets you answer questions about things you've been trained to know. Ensign Smith from the starship Generica might have Knowledge 3 but no knowledge at all about Bajor. Throughout the series, even close to the end, Cisco calls upon historical and religious experts to answer questions about Bajor; he's not the expert himself. So I would say that Cisco arrives at DS9 with Knowledge 3 but little exposure to Bajor, but by the end of the series he's fully invested in answering questions about Bajor with his general skill of Knowledge 3.
I'm not convinced that he has a separate Major Obligation to Deep Space Nine and its community beyond the obligations he already has to Starfleet and Bajor. If he had to dismantle the station and send its people elsewhere to satisfy his obligations to Starfleet and Bajor, he probably would. Maybe it's a Minor Obligation: he'd do a lot for them and wouldn't betray them, but by itself it's not a full-blown Obligation.
I think Indomitable is wrong. Cisco's mind is taken over several times during the series. He doesn't seem more resistant to it than anyone else.
Eccentric (Major) about baseball is definitely wrong. It should be Eccentric (Minor). Eccentric (Major) is described in the book as probably unsuitable for PCs given how crazy it makes your character act. That's not Cisco and baseball.
I presume you were intentionally ignoring the rule about areas of expertise only being allowed on skills level 3 and above.

Thank you for your analysis, nicely done and I quickly embraced some of it. This is more Sisko at the end of the show so taking that into account ... 1) I think he does deserve indomitable by the series finale when he stood up to the Pah Wraiths etc and on a personal note I think with all he has been through it just fits him generally. 2) I modified some of the histories and though you are quite correct he does consult with Vedeks etc I also think Sisko is an expert on Bajoran culture Season 7 3) I did change the eccentric to a minor that is a good catch - he just mentions it at pivotal moments plus the ever present baseball... 4) I think his attachment to the station is fierce but understated because it isn't a ship, for example "To the Death" look at his reaction to the station being damaged, listen to the speeches he makes even from the end of Season 1. I think you can read this as an attachment to DS9 the community as well as the physical place. Anyway I hope this clears up our thinking a little bit, I am always happy to get into the nitty gritty on things like this and thank you kindly for your intelligent and well-reasoned feedback.
