With the announcements in the holiday special, and also with spy-fall that UnIT is /has apparently been deactivated and shut down, what do we think will happen to all the bases/ equipment and alien gadgets ,,,also the personnel? Is something new coming to take its place? or has some core elements of Unit "pulled a Torchwood" and gone underground, possibly even merging with remnants of the Torchwood to make something new, if secret? thoughts; Ideas welcome please. thanks

Even more importantly, who's managing all those Zygon immigrants?
I think Chibnall wants to make the Doctor the only person on Earth with detailed knowledge of aliens and the ability to do something about them.
I always thought that Torchwood was a misplaced idea, since UNIT was already an established story element. Then Moffitt very much overplayed the UNIT angle (as illustrated by the character of Osgood providing literal fan-service), to the point that it's impossible to imagine any story about an alien threat to Earth not involving UNIT.
Just as Moffitt tried to erase Torchwood, Chibnall is trying to undo Moffitt's damage, I think. He's probably gone too far in removing it completely. I don't think he wants to bring in something new or introduce a rogue element; I think he wants the Doctor to have exclusive rights to world-saving.

In a narrative for the TV show it's fine. Canon is very pliable in Who Ditto in our RPGs We are all Davies/Moffat/Chibnall as GMs and players. For me UNIT will or will not exist as we see fit. For a role playing game it's helpful to have an organisation for the player characters to work with/for sometime.

I do think the "aliens aren't real" bird has flown and trying to pretend the stuffed toy in the cage is real just wont work at this stage. Good or bad we've had multiple massive alien invasions that would have been seen/filmed, the moon egg (bleh). At this stage in the timeline having intelligence agencies and the like dismiss the ocncept just makes no sense. Earlier in time before unit had all this evidence it'd be doable but not now. Its one thing that bugged me a few times now the receptionist asking when was the last time aliens invaded (Last tuesday you twit) or the MI6 head going "we've tried to ignore them." Disbanding unit makes no sense and it wont actually fix the problem.
