Meddling Monk Campaign
Our current players are:
Mortimus, the Meddling Monk (Originally played by Burgess Meredith now having regenerated into Reece Shearsmith) Having survived and witnessed the horrors of the Time War, he is trying to prove he can do some good in the universe. Trouble is, he is not very good at being the hero.
Verna: A devoutly Religious Hath Priest of the Church of the Tin Vagabond who wants to find her God.
'Jack': An android from an abandoned futuristic planetary version of Madame Tussaud, specially designed and programmed to believe he is notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper. Thankfully, the centuries of isolation have caused him to evolve beyond his programing. Thankfully...
Janus: A Catkind Scientist who suffers from delusions of grandeur.
Stewart Hughes: A university student from early 2000s Ireland whose younger brother was abducted by Fairies.
Here are the few adventures I have planned. Currently, the first adventure has already been completed.
#1. ‘Playmates’
After their adventure involving the cybernetic Krampus, Mortimus decides to educate Verna, Jack and Janus on the intricacies and values of British culture. And what better way to do that then by conjuring up tickets for the 1967 Royal Variety Performance featuring the Queen Mother and performances by the likes of Ken Dodd and Arthur Askey? However, all is not well as Mortimus soon discovers that a new act has been added to the lineup. The malevolent marionettes known as the Scorchies who, if not stopped will seize control of the country and then ultimately destroy the world. If the players are not successful in their endeavours, it could soon be curtains for them...
#2. ‘God of the Fishmen’ (Based on the First Doctor Expanded Sourcebook)
Mortimus and the crew arrive on a newly created volcanic island in the middle of an ocean that stretches to the horizon in all directions. However, they soon discover that they are not alone, as they encounter a party of Kandalingans bearing tribute for a new god that has appeared on Kandalinga: a number of fishmen from a rival tribe who have been captured and will be thrown into the volcano. If the players are not careful, they will also be used as sacrifices. But who or what is the god of the fishmen? Which alien menace is lurking within the volcano? And what does it require the sacrifices for?
#3. ‘Operation: Catnapped’
On a routine visit to market planet Brantley 4, Janus is found and arrested by The Shadow Proclamation for his many numerous crimes such as illegal human experimentation, the manufacturing of bio weapons and of course several parking violations. In order to break him out, the crew must enlist the services of 26th century rogue Vallian Trask. However, Vallian may be more trouble than he is worth.
*The character of Vallian Trask was created by allivingstone and can be found on the Heroes and Allies document.
#4. ‘The Tomb of the Krotons’ (Based on a previous Adventure Seed)
Archaeologists on 28th Century Tanzia, an established Earth colony world, have uncovered the remains of an ancient city from a previously unknown pre-human civilisation. When Mortimus and the crew arrive, a number of the excavating crew have disappeared and the PCs are naturally the major suspects. Examining the surface remains of the underground city, there are obvious indications that this is in fact a Cyber-tomb. Cue the players trying to stop the archaeologists from opening the tomb. When the outer doors are finally opened, there’s something odd: two Cybermen – presumably sentries – lie inside, covered in a layer of crystalline material and obviously dead. Something else found the tomb a long time ago: the Krotons have taken over. They have fed on the organic components of the sleeping Cybermen and have been waiting for a new source of neural energy to arrive. The missing expedition members are already in the tombs below, connected to Kroton devices that are draining their minds. The Krotons are on the move...
#5. ‘Tears of a Clown’
The date is the 12th April 1988. And miserable and depressed comic legend Kenneth Williams sits alone in his London flat. Three days before his eventual suicide by the overdose of barbiturates. Having realised the cost of tampering with the timelines due to his involvement as a Temporal Tactician in the Time War, Mortimus is determined that history should be preserved. Yet outside forces may have different plans. Plans to create a world of Endless Laughter, a world without sadness. A world of chaos.
#6. ‘Salvage’
Jack wakes up and finds himself lying on top of a scrap heap, his body busted and broken. What’s worse is that his memory banks appears to have been tampered with, and he can’t seem to remember the last 72 hours. Exploring his surroundings, he finds himself surrounded by scrap as far as the eye can see. It appears he is all alone on a planetary dumping ground. That is, until he discovers he is being hunted...
#7. ‘Unhappy Endings’
Trapped in a strange land unlike any other, with enemies advancing on all sides and the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty determined to erase them from existence. Have Mortimus and the crew finally met their match?
#8. ‘White Christmas’
Christmas, 1997 And Mortimus and the crew determined to have a quiet Christmas for a change. The turkey has been bought, the presents are wrapped and Mortimus has invited his colleague from the library Alice around to meet the rest of his friends. All is well, until what appears to be a living, animated Nutcracker knocks on his door.
T1 ‘For King and Country’
A one-shot adventure unconnected to the ongoing adventures of Mortimus and his TARDIS crew. Taking place in an alternate timeline where the British Empire never fell, a group of newly assembled Torchwood Agents are sent to investigate reports of spectral phantoms roaming the streets of Victoria City (formerly New York) However, what they discover may just end up deciding the fate of the entire Human Race…
After this one-shot I will be retiring as GM for a while leaving the Adventures of Mortimus and the Crew on a brief hiatus. We will instead be playing a new campaign with one of my players taking on the role of the GM. The campaign will be a series of adventures featuring the Second Doctor as played by myself. With Jamie and Zoë having vanished in mysterious circumstances, the Doctor is forced together with a new set of companions. The overarching narrative of the series will be the Doctor searching throughout time and space for his missing companions.
