Hi, thinking of returning to the game. I have the original 10th Doctor DWAITAS boxset that contained just two slim booklets (with a lot of the text replicated) but noticed the new core rules is quite a weighty tome. I wondered what has been added? Is there just more material added including classic eras? Is there more crunch? Is there greater elaboration of the rules?
Finally is it worth buying considering I own the old Boxset?

The rules themselves don't change much. The 11th Doctor boxset places more emphasis on the Tech Level mechanic and introduces stats for new characters and monsters but that's more or less it. The anniversary books is basically the same but a blending of the player and gm books but with more character stats and some adventure seeds. There is some stuff added in the 12th doctor book where a few new traits are promoted to 'core traits' after having debuted in other books. The 12th doctor book has yet more stats (some of which won't appear until the doctor sourcebook is released) and it has a couple of adventures.
TLDR: No new rules added beyond some traits being promoted to core and the extra length is down to the player and gm books fusing together. Ultimately how you spend your money is up to you.

Just keep what you've got, unless you absolutely have to have the new stats for the Doctor and his companions. Wherever you see someone mention a trait you don't recognize, just imagine it as a Special trait and move on.
I still use the original edition, and I don't find myself feeling out of touch.

There is a free upgrade to the 11th Doctor edition on Cubicle7's website, which includes some Alien profiles and new character sheets. That might interest you.
