Caught the end of spy kids 4 when I turned on the TV tonight and it prompted this little adventure seed I thought I'd share.
All around earth time is sliding out of kilter slowing down more and more, even freezing entirely in some areas trapping those inside. As the players investigate they find strange devices scattered around various cities draining the "insert random science terms" out of the universe and feeding the energy to a central source. These devices are guarded by strange clockwork creatures. As they follow the energy stream to the centre of the disturbance they find someone has built a time machine that they shouldn't have (far, far too early) and are powering it up in order to travel back in time and fix a terrible mistake. However there are two problems powering this will trap the earth in a single moment, frozen forever in time even worse should they succeed in the past in actually changing history it will create a paradox filled with reapers that could engulf an entire country. The players have to stop the device and figure out where the designs for it came from in the first place.

Wow, I didn't know the franchise had a fourth part. It sounds like a premise that could be adapted to an Earthbound game.

Quite easily the actual plot to 4 I think is different to what I posted but its heavily time travel based from what I saw.
