I liked it. Nice lead in to the new series, lots of continuity references. Though possibly a bit heavy handed with the Scottish bits. Also I like the titles, very horological. Some good lines. But what's happened to Torchwood? Has it been eliminated from continuity?

This might be on the way to being more like the classic series and even darker. Will have to see it again and then in context with the whole season run but generally, yes, it was damn good on first viewing.

It was very different - slower and more considered, in some ways, and it was shot very differently too. I liked it.

Wasn't keen on the new theme tune and for the first half or so I really wasn't impressed. Too many silly sound effects and forced jokes. Once they reached the restaurant though and The Doctor's personality seemed a bit more stable it got really good. It was a very genuinely dark episode and I'm really intrigued to see if they can keep this up.
What I like about this new Doctor is that I can't think of any previous Doctor he particularly reminds me of. Peter Capaldi has brought a really unique portrayal to the character. Clara is really coming into her own too now they're giving her a bit of room to develop as a character.

Not sure about the new titles or theme. But I liked the story, and the new Doctor shows great promise. A lovely touch to feature the 11th Doctor's phone call to Clara.

Actually, the new theme tune reminds me a bit of the Carnival of Monsters version that was almost immediately dropped:

I'm hoping it's the Rani. The credits list her as "Missy"

So...my thoughts on 'Deep Breath.' I liked it. It was a great episode. Not sure about the new Theme Tune, though, but it was a very fitting episode. Capaldi has become worthy to be The Doctor...but my Doctor will always be Matt. I like some of the theories here of Missy being The Rani, as well as the reference to The Carnival of Monsters. I think it would be cool if both of those were tied together. I read on Facebook that somebody nicknamed Missy 'Nightmare-y Poppins.' I'm gonna start calling her that too.

Truth be told, I didn't really care for the episode. While the ending scenes kept the whole thing from being "bad" in my eyes, the rest really wasn't good. Everything seemed off, from the special effects, to the writing, and even the acting. Everyone seemed eerily wooden, and the plot was painfully plodding and nonsensical, and not in the good, Doctor-y sort of way.
It was nice to see Eleven pop in and give Clara some words of encouragement, and to see her accepting Twelve as the Doctor. That scene with Missy and the clockwork robot was also very interesting. Is she some twisted version of River Song, the Rani, or a new villain?
Also, I caught the reference to the S.S. Madame de Pompadour from "Girl in the Fireplace", another Moffat story.. Not sure how I feel about it.
So far, series 8 has yet to impress me in a good way. It's especially disappointing given how this episode was hyped. In its defense, though, it's only given one try at it. I'll look to the future episodes, but with this first impression my optimism for series 8 is quite shaken.

My theory is that "Missy" may be short for "Mistress" and she's some female incarnation of The Master. Also that garden she was in, with the big round feature thing in the centre, really looked laid out like a TARDIS control room. Even the way she was moving around it reminded me of 11 flying the TARDIS.

I hadn't considered the possibility of Missy being a female Master, but I can see it. My thought was she's a sort of anti-Clara, particularly since she refers to the Doctor as her boyfriend within a few minutes of him telling Clara 'I'm not your boyfriend.'

I'm hoping it's the Rani. The credits list her as "Missy" When Michelle Gomez was announced as being in Series 8, her character was given a different name, or rather title. If you do a Google search on Doctor Who Michelle Gomez, who'll find the news reports easily - though I'm not sure that they actually take us any further towards identifying her.

I do like that idea, but at this point I don't think it'll turn out to be correct - though it's the sort of thing that Steven Moffat would use for misdirection!

Any possibility Missy could be a deranged early regeneration of River Song?
All that "boyfriend" stuff Missy spouted makes me wonder.

All in all, a great episode. Not so much because of the somewhat mediocre plot, but because how they handled the theme of appearances and delusions and of who somebody really is. I very much liked Peter Capaldi's acting as well as Jenna Coleman's, who in my book did her best performance up to date. Oh, and let's not forget Neve McIntosh!
Liked the new intro very much, at least the visual effects. The music will take time to get familiar with.
I think Madame Vastra should become a series regular, perhaps a real companion. She is simply great. Looking forward very much to what "Missy" is all about.

I'd actually like to still see how The Doctor eventually gets Gallifrey back.

There's a possibly telling line: "I do like his new accent, though. Think I might keep it."
So she gets to choose to keep the Doctor's accent?
Somewhere other than the living world?
The Doctor loves her so much (odd glance)?

I liked the new episode. Kinda weak plot, but a lot of cool throwbacks. I love the new music, don't really care for the visuals. I did not care for how Clara was played. If she's the Impossible Girl who's been through the Doctor's entire timeline, why is she so out of shape about the Doctor having changed? Just doesn't mesh w/me. Anyway, loved Capaldi's Doctor, makes me think of a mix of the early ones & 10. Also, absolutely adore the new Tardis interior. He's got a chair & stuff again!
All in all, have my complaints, but definitely looking forward to seeing more of Capaldi's Doctor. Depending on how things go, I might wind up w/a new favorite. =P I'd like to see this Missy as the Master as well, hopefully Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere is a red herring.

I found good but nothing special. I liked the usual post-regeneration crazy but I did feel it was pushed a bit hard this time around.
I liked the new Doctor's personality although it feels like they are trying to channel the 1st Doctor's grumpy. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the idea was to have the reset of regeneration's at least to start with mirror the old Doctors.
What really bugged me was Clara. She's aware of regeneration after the recent couple stories but here she treats it as something she didn't know about. Her whole attitude changed this season and not in a nice way.
