I'm really not sure how Persona Shift works when you roll that result on the Traits table in the Regeneration rules in The Time Traveller's Guide. It says to roll a D6 and replace that many Traits with similar ones of equal value, which is straightforward enough but how do you decide which ones to replace?

The player gets to choose. The base type stays the same though, its not quite as bad as some of the other options. So - if my player's Timelord August Rain regenerates, rolls this result, then rolls a 3, he has to look through his traits and replace 3 of them. He chooses to replace Eccentric (Minor Bad), Argumentative (Minor Bad) and Attractive (Minor Good). The player decides (or has rolled 6 on the Apparent Age table) that August's new incarnation will be an older Timelord, like the First Doctor, and will now have Forgetful (Minor Bad), Impaired Senses - Shortsighted (Minor Bad) and Resourceful Pockets (Minor Good).
The only limitation really is that their basic Time Lord traits remain untouched. (see the sidebar on p.41).
