Has anyone thought of using the chase rules for other kinds of scenes? Like an investigation scene? Switching out the appropriate attributes and skills, of course. I have in my head the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes racing to see who can solve a crime first.
The core "speed" attribute might be based on ingenuity, since both the detective and the criminal are trying to out-think the other. Or, perhaps awareness for the detective as she is trying to find clues. (Maybe this can alternate every other "chase" round?)
To increase "speed" or get closer to solving the crime, maybe use ingenuity + knowledge (?) or ingenuity + awareness? The culprit would "resist" with ingenuity+subterfuge. This can of course lead in to an actual foot chase scene, as the detectives close in and win the investigation-chase.

Theoretically it's a good mechanic for any sequential series of skill resolutions.
It could be used for things ranging from parallel research, to eating contests.
Actually a good use would be - villains breaking through a barrer to get at the Doctor & crew versus the Doctor inventing a gizmo to escape/knock them out with. Happens fairly often in the series.

Hey thanks!
And that's a great idea about extended scenes- I just watched the Waters of Mars and I can totally see using the "chase" system in this way- as the Flood (or whatever they are called) try and get inside while the humans try to escape.
I love this game.
