Exciting stuff!
So the decision as to whether or not the 8th Doctor is to have his own separate sourcebook has presumably been made.

WOOT! Looks very cool!
And comes at just the right time for me, since I'm trying to put together source material for extracanonical 1st Doctor stories. I'm surprised by the way it will be structured, but not disappointed.

Exciting stuff! So the decision as to whether or not the 8th Doctor is to have his own separate sourcebook has presumably been made. The 8th Doctor will get his own book as far as I know. Not sure how much I'm allowed to say, but I don't believe it will use anything except the movie as source material. Having said that it won't be any thinner than the others as Gar has a plan. (Walt and I are working on 4 and its going to be huge! WOOT! Looks very cool! And comes at just the right time for me, since I'm trying to put together source material for extracanonical 1st Doctor stories. I'm surprised by the way it will be structured, but not disappointed. I'm curious, how were you expecting it to be structured? There may be some regional variance but Gar is making us all work to a specific plan so they all keep the same style. Personally it always annoys me when a series of books like this appears and the style for each is different (Vampire clanbooks and 7th sea nation books I'm looking at you! ).

8th Doctor stuff... you tease! (Does that also mean the 4th Doctor book isn't actually thicker than the others?
Your curiosity... To be perfectly frank, I really had no real idea. I suppose I thought it would mirror other books to date, with all the characters in the same chapter, all the biographical information, all the gadgets, and all the adventure seeds, grouped together. It's how the UNIT and Time Traveler books are set up, and how the core book is too.
That said, I love the story-by-story approach! Purely as a reader, it creates a fun narrative and makes it something you read cover to cover instead of flipping back and forth among a load of entries. So long as it has a good index, it should be easy to find what you're looking for regardless of its place in the book, and even easier for aficionados of the series who instantly know which story Mavic Chen hails from.

Yes, I noticed that earlier today! I have added a note to my calendar, to remind me to lace a pre-order on pay-day this month.

Time-limited subscription deals.
Maybe I overlooked it, but I haven't read what the time-frame is for the special deal. Is it only this week, this month?

To answer a few questions, and preempt others... The cut off date isn't set in stone yet, but you should have at least until March to place an order. You will still be able to buy each book separately as they are released. This deal just gives you a better price for subscribing to the line and ensures you get each one hot off the press. We will be offering a pdf only deal too for the more electronically minded. Given how Defending the Earth and the Time Traveller's Companion have come out so quickly on each other's heels we hope we've proved a new commitment to the line. However, you could be forgiven for wondering how much is actually done. So I can tell you Hartnell is done (even on the way to the printer) Troughton is in layout, Pertwee is in editing and Walt and I are finishing off the Baker book (which will be somewhat thicker than the others. The remaining books are currently at the writing stage. We probably won't manage one each month, but we're going to damn well try! Each book is both a fan resource and a gaming supplement. They contain the statistics for all the companions and monsters of each era. They also offer detailed notes on playing in the style of that era and how to adapt the stories for adventures with those who have already seen them. Each book will also be a stand alone product so you won't need to constantly cross reference them all to get the information you need. They also just look damn shiny. Paul's done a great job on layout and we haven't stinted on the pictures. Hartnell and Troughton will also be in black and white for added nostalgia

Hartnell is done (even on the way to the printer) That's a cue for a PDF release on drivethrurpg soon I hope.

Does the plan for the 4th doctor book involve some complicated block-transfer mathematics creating a book that is thicker than all the rest - but only on the inside?

Even with advanced Logopolitan mathematics, I suspect its going to be bigger on the inside and the outside!

Reading the preview, this is exactly what I was looking for in the Era sourcebooks - I loved the Babylon 5 Series sourcebooks Mongoose produced, an episode-by-episode breakdown with NPCs, gadgets, synopsis, hooks... Can't wait for this lot!

I really cannot wait for these. As for the 8th, I'm sure C7 already have their own ideas but wouldn't it be great as a filler book to cover such things like Downtime, Shakedown, Auton, Scream of the Shalka, etc. ?

I was surprised to read that every book will be 160 pages in length. Doesn't this detrimentally affect the 4th Doctor's book, and possibly the 3rd as well, considering the longer lengths of their respective eras on the program?

Very cool. Would totally go for the subscription if I could justify the lump expense. I take it we'll be able to buy them individually as well?

I'm wondering how you going to stretch the 8th Doctor's single two hour movie into 160 pages.
Also wondering if you would consider an installment plan for those of us who cannot afford putting out over $300 in one lump sum.

Hmm-well it all looks fabulous of course and the efficiency with which the UNIT book and the TTC have materialised was impressive. However: I cannot quite believe in C7's ability to release all these books on a bi monthly schedule as indicated with nary a hitch. Subscription costs at either over 200 quid for the lot or 120 for a year's worth-golly. I can see a good discount is offered but that is a lot of lolly in one fell swoop for the average person.
If you want to give a discount for bulk buying that makes more sense at the time you actually have the products out. I think if they are coming out one at a time as well I'd go for that rather than the sub.

Gar has a plan for Doc 8, but we're waiting for approval (that is all I can say I'm afraid) but it will definitely be a full book. Doc 4 will be larger than the others, as Walt and I haven't been asked to trim out anything going into the other books. There is a very easy installment plan, you can just get the books as they come out. The deal isn't the only way to get hold of them, they won't be limited editions, each will be available on pdf and hardcopy and in shops and possibly on individual preorder just like any other product. We just wanted to offer an additional subscription deal to anyone who was willing to fork out for the whole set at this stage.

I think if they are coming out one at a time as well I'd go for that rather than the sub. Once all the books are out we may yet do another bulk deal. However, as people subscribing to this one are showing such faith in C7 (for which we are all very grateful as the response has been fabulous) this will be the best deal we offer I suspect. The other problem is that few people are likely to want to wait until all the books are out before buying the first one (I certainly wouldn't). If everyone did that we'd probably assume no one wanted them and kill the line if we weren't selling any! It is a lot to fork out at once, but we're only able to offer large discounts on large purchases (otherwise Dom's family doesn't get to eat ) But each book will be available in all the usual ways.

I was just thinking that my own self. I'll see if I can convince myself on the books first, but I think it's much more likely I'll go with the PDF deal. Any of them I particularly like I could get in the physical later, after all.
I don't see them as books you'd really need to reference that often at the table... not like the UNIT or TTC books.

I don't mean this with any disrespect, but it may be a good idea for Cubicle 7 to update the PDF's of UNIT Sourcebook and Time Traveller's Companion with the fixed errata - this will instil more confidence to preorder I think. For me at least!

Well, that's all 11 PDFs pre-ordered then! And yes, someone at C7 really needs to prod DriveThru with a stick to get them to put the updated PDFs up - I gather they've sent them, but DTRPG just hasn't done the job yet!
