How should “L” damage be handled when it comes to two aliens with armor and “Lethal” weapons fighting (as happened at the Battle of Canary Wharf)? Is there any official word on this? This is one of the few things that really bothers me about the system, which I otherwise really love.

How should “L” damage be handled when it comes to two aliens with armor and “Lethal” weapons fighting (as happened at the Battle of Canary Wharf)? Is there any official word on this? This is one of the few things that really bothers me about the system, which I otherwise really love. Well Daleks are an interesting case as they have a force field which automatically reduces damage results down two kevels so even weapons like the cybermen guns that do 4/L/L are staged down to 4 at best with a Dalek, and Daleks have an Armour value of 10 so they shrug it off. By the rules, Daleks are pretty fearsome. There's nothing in the core rules that can affect them unless a GM allows a player to buy the damage value back up with Story Points. (I don't, by the way. I like Daleks to be very fearsome and to require more inventiveness to deal with than just shooting them). The reverse however, is not quite so pleasant. By the standard rules, a Dalek shooting a Cyberman can get an L result and the cyberman is finished. That's just the way it is. There is an optional rule for treating Lethal Damage as 8 points if the GM desires. In that case, a creature with Armour 10 might shrug it off. But if the GM allows this, then they'll probably want to figure some way of reducing armour with consecutive shots otherwise they'll be shooting at each other all day. In general, in DW:AiTaS, guns are very dangerous. And that's true for NPCs and Monsters as well. At the Battle of Canary Wharf, you saw the Daleks one-shot many a Cyberman. Indeed, as the Dalek's said, they would "defeat the Cybermen with one Dalek". That's pretty accurate in this case. In the event of a non-Dalek confrontation, such as Sontarans vs. Cybermen, where they're both using 4/L/L weapons, people are going to be dropping like flies. I personally found the lack of variety between alien weapons a bit boring (whilst liking the deadliness of them), but the Defending the Earth sourcebook contains expanded rules for weapons. Take a look in my signature for the DW supplemental document I did because I have used those rules to introduce some variety to the weapons. Hope that helps. Khadim.
