Hi everyone Defending the Earth took a bit more time with the printer than anticipated, but it arrived in our warehouse on Tuesday. US and Canadian orders began shipping yesterday, and the stock for all other orders (which is dispatched from the UK) is heading across the US and the Atlantic to the UK at the moment (hopefully to begin shipping out early next week). The Time Traveller's Companion is being tweaked before heading to the printer next week, and many more books are in various stages of writing, editing, layout and approval. Thanks Dom from cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?trk=cubicle7&showtopic=3641&st=0entry36635 ;D ;D ;D

Time for my excited dance again methinks!
If The Time Traveller's Companion is heading to the printers next week, pre-orders should be up soon... and pdfs available! ;D

I'll be videoing that excited dance and putting it online. Hopefully it'll go viral this time. Can't think why it didn't last time, really, what with the cat joining in and everything.
Fingers crossed for a PDF in time for the Christmas special.

I'll be finishing it this weekend. I thought I'd have it done by today, but grad school finals are a beast.
Should have the PDF version ready soon though, so fingers crossed for Christmas...

Is this actually out then? Nothing has come across from my LGS. I don't think stores have them yet. C7 have been posting out the pre-orders.

Got my pdf and waiting on the hardcover.
As a newcomer to Doctor Who (just finished season 1 with the ninth doctor) and the RPG I have one question to put to old hands:
Do I understand DEFENDING THE EARTH correctly that neither alien threats nor UNIT themselves remain secrets? I mean, consider the recognizable uniforms and aircraft carriers cruising the sky. Why then does UNIT still cover up? Perhaps simply to keep the public from a true understanding of the real scope of threats?

It depends.
Originally UNIT was considered some sort of Intelligence agency (Like MI6 or the CIA, but answerable to the UN) of the UN. It's existence was not a secret, but the fact that it was set up to deal with extra-terrestrial threats was. In the classic series, information of Aliens was suppressed and covered up. The existence of Aliens was known to some government officials, but the general populace were kept in the dark. Truth told, it seems hard to accept that they could keep it all under wraps as many of the Alien menaces were hard not to notice.
When the new series was started, the producers of the show blew the lid on the existence of aliens by having an alien ship crash into Big Ben. From that point on the existence of aliens is no long a secret, and it looks like the Police at least know what UNIT is really for.
But, in Series 5 of the new show, they rewrote time again, and pretty much retconned all the invasions and menaces from the new series out of the show. So people don't know about aliens again, and UNIT is considered some sort of Intelligence agency again.
But, on the other hand, Churchill and some other officals from WWII know the Doctor and are aware of aliens, at least of the Daleks, so it's probably not quite as well a kept secret as it was in the classic series.

Any idea when these titles will be available to order through Amazon.com ? That's usually where I order gaming stuff from since I'm pretty leery of PayPal.

To expand upon thewarchief's impressive information, part of the reason why aliens are mostly a secret to the general populace is because people are so darn stubborn. Most public alien encounters and decried as hoaxes or put up to public confusion (possibly due to, in no small part, influence from UNIT itself). Even at the end of the same story when the spaceship crashes in Big Ben, the event is written off as a hoax by the general public. The Doctor is not surprised.

Why then does UNIT still cover up? Perhaps simply to keep the public from a true understanding of the real scope of threats? To prevent panic. If there are/were evil aliens in the old factory, people would do stupid things like go and investigate or attack them. If on the other hand the phenomenon was all caused by a faulty gas pipe...

I think I may prefer the "somewhat non-secretive" approach of the earlier seasons for my games, but wait and see how I feel after having seen the later seasons of the show.
